About me

For some folk living life with it's ups and downs seems fairly doable. But for some of us the challenges thrown up by our lives at times seem insurmountable. My journey to understand and change began 25 years ago. I therefore completely connect with people who don't understand quite why they feel the way they do or appreciate the difficulty of changing even with knowledge or experience that says 'doing something differently would be wise'.

I have been working in the recovery field for nearly 20 years, training initially in a rehabilitation centre in Kent for people suffering from many different types of addictions to both substances and processes. Prior to that training and subsequent promotion I studied Adlerian Individual Psychology, helping me to understand why people are the way they are, and the origins in childhood of decisions made that track people into adulthood and which require reviewing.

The relationships between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, along with thorough assessment (sometimes in conjunction with medical professionals) and the developing of a trusting relationship, usually gives the key to the client to enable them to move forward with their lives.

Even the smallest piece of knowledge accompanied by a change in behaviour / thinking can produce lasting life changing results.

I have no wish for a client to become dependent on me as some problems can be identified examined and moved on from quite rapidly.

My role is simply to enable someone to understand what's going on and help them choose the path of least resistance to a more peaceful life.

I have worked extensively with addicted health care professionals and their families during the last 15 years.

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
