About me

I am a BACP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist providing one-to-one counseling.  I have 20 years experience of working in the mental health field as a support worker, team leader, group facilitator, trainer, and counselor.

I provide a safe comfortable space where you can talk in confidence about your difficulties. We will work in collaboration to identify effective coping strategies and your signature strengths.  Together we create a treatment plan identifying SMART goals and steps to take to help you reach your goals.

I work across Renfrewshire and Glasgow and offer a range of support for anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, stress, and relationship difficulties.

I incorporate Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy into our sessions. Compassionate mind training CMT can be very effective in helping to cultivate a self-soothing approach to alleviating self-critical thinking, which is a common characteristic of grief, trauma, depression, and anxiety.

I offer a flexible service in a range of venues in Paisley and Glasgow and can offer video counseling sessions too. I also offer a free telephone consultation to clients where I would get a clearer picture of your issue(s) and gather your contact details.  At this point, if you decide you wish to use my service we can book an assessment appointment.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Counseling sessions can be accessed face-to-face in venues in Renfrewshire and Glasgow, or online using zoom or what's app, we can also meet outdoors for walking sessions.

I have a passion for compassionate focused approaches to coping with stress, anxiety, and difficulties in relationships. I also provide counseling for clients who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma.  I have a wide range of experience working with clients from different backgrounds, gender, ethnicity, and ages. In addition to experience and skills to work with young people 12 and over.

I take a creative approach in counseling sessions incorporating a wide range of evidence-based methods to think and feel differently about our ability to overcome issues.  Seeing the issues from a wider perspective opens up new ways of coping with difficulties, In turn, this also enables you to take a new direction overcoming life's challenges by doing things differently.  I bring in art materials using drawing to help in visualizing the problem and sketching out possible solutions.

I also provide you with video resources, books poetry, and music very useful in our therapeutic work in addition to guided meditation practices.  The walk and talk sessions are held outdoors and this method is useful in accessing a sense of clarity and connection with nature enabling a sense of calm.

Self-compassion therapy is a powerful method for addressing issues around shame and guilt and can be learned using a range of mindfulness-based exercises and Cognitive-behavioral techniques.

I provide everyone accessing sessions with a summary and solution focussed ideas to consider and integrate into your treatment plan.
