About me

I am a qualified psychotherapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I understand that it can be a big decision, and that you may feel nervous, uncertain or vulnerable. My first priority is to provide a safe place where you feel you can be yourself and speak without fear of being judged. Once you feel comfortable, I will work with you to explore your issues, and help you understand what changes you can make to feel better about yourself and your relationships.

My background of working in the public and voluntary sectors, as well as teaching and student support in further and higher education, has given me over 20 years' experience of working with people who need help with generalised anxiety disorder, depression, addiction, relationship issues and trauma. I work in private practice at the Lighthouse Clinic in Swansea.

My approach to therapy is built on my 20 years of helping people with their mental health. I believe the key is not just to manage the symptoms of anxiety or depression, although this is important, but to work with the underlying feelings that make you feel empty, low, stuck or overwhelmed. My first step is to help you feel safe so that we can explore and understand what is causing you to feel anxious, depressed or stuck. Once you feel safe I will work with you to deal with painful emotions so that you can find a way to move forward in your life. How long this takes will depend on your reasons for seeking help and I will always work at a pace and a depth that you feel comfortable with.

I offer both short-term and long-term therapy and have experience of working with: anxiety; depression; panic disorder; relationship issues; addiction; eating disorders; bereavement; loss; childhood abuse and other trauma.

I have reserved some sessions for those on low incomes, trainee counsellors/ therapists, students and public service workers. These are charged on a sliding scale.

The easiest way to get in touch with me is to send me an email or text with your contact details and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MA in Psychotherapeutic Practice
  • PGCE in Further Education
  • MA in International Politics
  • BA (Hons) in Literature, Life and Thought

I have trained in Emotion Focused Therapy under Robert Elliott and have completed mental health first aid training.

My experience includes working in the NHS supporting people with mental health issues. In the voluntary sector, I worked with individuals with anxiety, depression, addiction and other mental health issues. I have seen the devastating impact of trauma, abuse, relationship breakdown, bereavement and other life changing events on people's lives and this has helped me develop a compassionate and empathic approach in my work as a psychotherapist.

I have worked in education for many years and I am currently teaching counselling skills and providing pastoral support to students in higher education.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
