Hello, my name is Darrin Thomson, welcome to my counselling profile. I am a fully qualified humanistic, integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, which means that i draw from various theoretical approaches within my work.
I run a private practice in York city centre along side my part time roles as a counselling coordinator for York Mind and a primary care counsellor in Hull. I have over 5 years post qualified experience.
The main essence of my work is yourself, as I believe that you have the resources within yourself to live a fulfilled, happy life. It is important to the counselling process that you feel comfortable within the space provided, so that we can both work together, to locate those resources.
It's essential that you feel you are in a warm, safe and non-judgemental space to enable you to explore and process feelings that are troubling or causing difficulty in your life, enabling you to become more self aware and get to know and trust in your own internal emotional processes.
Within the therapeutic space, I will accompany you in your journey of exploring feelings such as anxiety, grief, anger and other distressing emotions associated with difficult life experiences. These life experiences might include bereavement, depression, relationship issues, and problems with addiction or abuse. I also welcome working with clients who wish to process anger that they may experience in day to day life and within their relationships.
You will have the opportunity to feel heard from your own point of view and also possibly helped to see things more clearly from a different perspective.
There may be times that I suggest practicing techniques at home, but there is no pressure to do this, as we will go at your pace. You are free to end your sessions at any time.
"I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you very much for the sessions, all of which I have found very useful and has definitely made me look at things differently in the future, Many Thanks"
