About me
Hello and thank you for visiting my profile.
Managing life's challenges and our mental health can be overwhelming. Whether it's anxiety, depression, coping with loss or just working out what's wrong and why we're feeling sad, we sometimes need help with our thoughts and feelings.
Working online or in person in Colchester, I'll help you to explore in your own time what's troubling you and to find a way forward.
My approach
Everyone is unique and each of us has our own different needs. My counselling approach starts simply with just listening and learning about you and why you've come to therapy. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use a combination of therapeutic approaches to best support you.
Once we have a better understanding of your situation, I'll work with you in ways that meet your needs. I won't judge and I won't offer advice. I'll offer my reflections and observations about what you tell me, and sometimes gently challenge you. But rest assured, I'll be alongside you as you share your story, gain awareness and work towards healing.
My background
My own therapeutic journey helped me to work through a number of significant losses and periods of depression, as well as to find self acceptance. That process led me to become a counsellor and is something that is really important to me. I am always humbled and privileged to be allowed inside someone's world, to help them overcome their challenges in life, heal wounds, and see them flourish.
Where to start?
You may be taking your first steps towards getting the support you need. Finding the right counsellor and getting started isn't always easy. I invite you to book a short free consultation on the phone or video call. You can let me know a little about why you're looking for a therapist and find out about working with me.
I look forward to meeting you
Darren

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
