About me

For most teenagers and young adults, it's a difficult time in their life. Studies show that they need as much emotional support as younger people.

Hi, I'm Daniel (He/Him). I've spent the past 12 years working with young people (11-25) across the Doncaster area, and have been qualified as a counsellor for the last 4 of those years.

I was a health worker employed by the NHS, focusing on risk-taking behaviour and worked as a counsellor in a Secondary Academy,  and now work with young people, helping reduce offending behaviour, as part of a local authority intervention team. I'm fortunate to have been able to help so many young people through a variety of personal issues.

I'm fully trained in safeguarding procedures and ensure every young person understands these limitations.

I consider myself an integrative practitioner, underpinned by a person-centred approach, focusing on building a quality counsellor & client relationship. In addition, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy are just two of the theoretical models that I utilise.

How do I work with young people?

  • Or should that be 'Why do I work with young people?' In my experience, you have to work twice as hard to earn the respect (a word I hear a lot) from a young person. This barrier excludes many adults, and they fall at the first hurdle.
  • I've tailored my approach to avoid patronizing or condescending towards a young person, and seek to uncover & celebrate their potential. I currently have a 99% engagement rate (there's always one!)
  • Humour: this can often be overlooked in counselling, but I believe it essential to acknowledge it in the process of forming a relationship with a young person.

Do I work with Adults?

Absolutely. Prior to my work as a school counsellor, my experience in counselling was predominantly with adults and is something I have continued alongside my work with young people.

I currently only offer online counselling via Skype/Zoom

I work with: Abuse (sexual, emotional and physical), Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Bullying, Child Related Issues, Depression, Gender (I previously ran an LGBTQ+ group), Low Self Confidence, Self-harm, Low Self Esteem, Panic Attacks, Phobias, Relationship Issues, Self Harm, Stress, Trauma, Work Related Issues.

Please message me with any questions, I'm looking forward to hearing from you, and most importantly - helping you.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
