Daniel Hannam Counsellor NCS (Accred)
About me
For most teenagers and young adults, it's a difficult time of life. Studies show that they need as much emotional support as younger people. The problem is persuading them to access it..
Hi, I'm Daniel. I've spent the past ten years working with young people (11-25) across the Doncaster area. I was a health worker employed by the NHS, focusing on risk taking behaviour and worked as a counsellor in a Secondary Academy, I'm fortunate to have been able to help so many young people through a variety of personal issues. I'm fully trained in safeguarding procedures and ensure every young person understands these limitations.
I consider myself an integrative practitioner, underpinned by a person centred approach, focusing on building a quality counsellor & client relationship. I qualified using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as my chosen theoretical model and, if you feel it useful, can implement some of the techniques during the sessions.
How do I work with young people?
- Or should that be 'Why do I work with young people?' In my experience you have to work twice as hard to earn the respect (a word I hear a lot) from a young person. This barrier excludes many adults, and they fall at the first hurdle.
- I've tailored my approach to avoid patronizing or condescending towards a young person, and seek to uncover & celebrate their potential. I currently have a 99% engagement rate (there's always one!)
- Humour: this can often be overlooked in counselling, but I believe it essential to acknowledge it in the process of forming a relationship with a young person.
Do I work with Adults?
Absolutely. Prior to my work as a school counsellor, my experience in counselling was exclusively with adults, something which I have continued alongside my work with young people.
I currently only offer online counselling via Skype/Zoom
I work with: Abuse (sexual, emotional and physical), Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Bullying, Child Related Issues, Depression, Gender (I run a LGBTQ group), Low Self Confidence, Self-harm, Low Self Esteem, Panic Attacks, Phobias, Relationship Issues, Self Harm, Stress, Trauma, Work Related Issues.
Please message me with any questions, I'm looking forward to hearing from you, and most importantly - helping you.
