About me

So you're looking into counselling. How do you decide who will be a good counsellor for you? Qualifications, experience, location, price are just a few things to consider. Yet research shows one key factor is the "fit" between client and counsellor.

I have 13 years of experience counselling a wide range of clients with many different challenges (addictions, relationship conflicts, stress...) but perhaps what I see most frequently is some combination of anxiety and/or depression. Which really isn't a surprise when 1 in 5 in the UK experience some form of anxiety or depression each year.

Are you anxious, depressed, or both? Is that something you are looking for some help with?

No one therapeutic approach has been able to meet every client's need. That's why my approach is best described as Integrative. Which means I make use of a number of different approaches, techniques, and theories, guided by that which would serve you best, rather than trying to make you fit into a neat little box.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be as effective as medication for mild and moderate depression. In addition to CBT, I

Clients have commented regularly that they appreciate my relaxed approach, which focuses on what their concerns are, as well as the insight they gain from sessions.

What typically happens:

- After you contact me we pick a time that works for both of us
- At my office we take a few minutes to go over the primary goal and concerns you would like to address
- we fill out a page or so of paperwork covering the basics of confidentiality, fee, objectives, a quick check to assess if there are depression, addiction, or other pressing issues in addition to the goals of counselling
- when we wrap up the session we take a minute to assess how the session went, what could be improved and if/when we would book another session.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Master's degree in counselling where I trained in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have years of experience in Solution Focussed and CBT

Additionally, I have a certificate in Focussing which is a psychotherapeutic approach which practices non-judgemental attention to an internal knowing which has yet to be articulated. It can help bring clarity to feeligs, identify what you want, create new insights, and accelerate healing.

Further to this, I have trained in Prepare Enrich which is an assessment tool that offers a research-based structure for working with couples, to help them grow in their relationship.

My experience with CBT is particularly helpful for clients with anxiety and depression. CBT has been shown to be as effective as medication with moderate depression.

One additional training is worth mentioning. The Client Directed Outcome Informed (CDOI) approach is designed to provide an effective and efficient way to personalize the counselling sessions to address each clients' needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Does coaching and counselling work?

You shouldn't have to guess,
nor should it be up to the professional to determine whether you are improving.

To ensure that your needs are being met:

I use of a well researched international 1 minute evaluation at the beginning and end of each session
. This information provides real-time feedback on the benefit and value of the sessions.

I believe that neither the clients nor the counsellors should have to guess about whether the sessions are helping.

In less than two minutes per session we can be clear about what;s working and what isn't, and whether your money is getting the return you deserve
. No guesswork.
