I am an experienced counsellor, working with individuals over the age of 16, and with couples.
I take a holistic view of our human condition so that I see us all as a product of our past experiences, our present circumstances, our feelings, our thoughts, and our behaviours. It is perfectly possible to treat most behaviours such as excessive drinking, or anger, or anxiety by working out coping strategies (and I do indeed offer that). But I also believe that a genuine sense of health springs from dealing with the underlying causes of our emotions, beliefs and impulses and that without addressing those issues problems may return or be replaced with others.
When working with an individual they are my only source of information and so it is relatively easy to take everything told to me at its face value. When working with a couple there are usually two different interpretations of the facts and so I have to focus hard on maintaining a balanced view. I try to see the couple's relationship as my client and so hope to remain impartial. It is important to work out where communication is failing in a relationship, and how to establish habits for improving understanding.
Ultimately the way we deal with life is dependent on how we feel about ourselves. Which brings me back to my beginning: somehow the experience of a relationship with someone who is completely accepting of us, genuine in their responses, and able to attune to our feelings can bring about huge positive changes in the way that we experience the world. That is the service that I offer.

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
