My approach to therapy. Underlying all the problems people have is the experience of distress. It is this experience that I can help with. I cannot change your past and the things that may have happened to you but I can help you understand your feelings and help you think clearly about how this can be affecting your ability to enjoy your life now.
I offer Counselling and Psychotherapy for a wide variety of things that include anxiety and depression, relationship problems, isolation, trauma, Long-Term Health Conditions (LHC’s) like Diabetes, heart failure or any other chronic long-term health problem. Helping people to understand their health condition and come to terms with it is a major part of self-care but sometimes things can go wrong and self-care can seem impossible to manage.
I am an EMDR therapist in training and offer this service for anyone where it is appropriate. With your agreement I can integrate EMDR into our therapy work together.
About EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy first put forward for the treatment of Trauma (major events that interfere with the sense of safety and on-going life. Since it was first discovered it has been found to be useful for both major Trauma (Capital ‘T’ trauma like rape, assault, violent events both as victim or witness) and minor trauma events. Small ‘t’ trauma events are often life events that may only have personal meaning but often leave a mark that can be equally painful and have long lasting effects. Loss of pets, jobs or friends can often be very traumatic and have long lasting effects.
Long Term Health Conditions e.g. Diabetes, Heart Failure. Any diabetic (type 1 or 2) can run into problems with self-care and people with any long-term health condition can also have high levels of Anxiety and Depression that are not easily recognised. Anxiety and Depression combined with any long-term health condition is a serious problem that can increase the risk of complications to health.
There are different ways that we can work together. I offer:
Individual Counselling or Psychotherapy
- Brief Counselling 6-10 sessions
- Short Term of 10-20 sessions
- Medium Term (approx. 40 sessions)
- Long Term Counselling and Psychotherapy (By Mutual Agreement)
