About me

I am a mature counsellor with many years’ experience of working with clients of all ages with a multitude of concerns. I am a grounded individual with life experiences outside of the care and health sector.

I can offer individual psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy. Psychodynamic counselling uses the relationship that we build together to think about other relationships and patterns of behaviour non-judgementally and to try and understand the root causes. It is through understanding being aware that change can take place.

I appreciate that for most of us time is a precious commodity and therefore would like to offer counselling at convenient times, so have appointments from 9am until 8pm on weekdays and Saturday morning appointments. I am reasonable priced but can also offer concessionary rates.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the University of Oxford gaining Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Practice. I have worked with adults referred by their GP's and with young people at a local secondary school.

I have had more than twelve years of experience working emotionally damaged children at the highly respected Mulberry Bush School. Clients at the school often act out their communication and therapy takes place within the relationships that they have with the staff.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Psychodynamic counselling can help with many areas of emotional difficulty, as various presenting symptoms can have very similar root causes. We have all experienced times when life’s problems can seem insurmountable; times of anxiety, depression, or over whelming pressure; times when we may feel helpless or out of control or just can’t cope. Rather than simply tackling the apparent surface “symptom” we use the relationship in the room to understand what might be underlying the issues, and also to explore other areas which might be causing problems

Counselling offers the opportunity to find a way through these difficulties in a reliable professional relationship where support, trust and safety are an integral part of the process. I can help you to make connections that may enable you to understand why you get stuck in certain patterns of life so that we gain a deeper understanding of yourself. In this way you can become more accepting of yourself and those around you; you can develop new ways to cope with life’s challenges and thereby increase your freedom to choose how you live.
