What I Offer
I am an experienced and BACP accredited Person-Centred Counsellor.
I have a particular interest in working with people who for one reason or another have ended up feeling rather lost in the world.
You may well be experiencing anxiety or depression or both as they can often be the most noticeable symptoms. You may simply have a vague sense that all is not right. Or that you just don’t feel very happy though you think you should be.
You may not even be able to express exactly what it is you are feeling. It may be difficult to find the words that might help you describe what’s going on for you.
My job is to create a safe space and to help co-create a trusting therapeutic relationship with you that will support you for the duration of our work together.
I know from many years of working as a therapist, that successful counselling depends largely on the relationship between Counsellor and Client. As such, I am committed to developing the levels of trust necessary for positive change to occur.
One of my great strengths is my ability to build deeply trusting therapeutic relationships with my clients, providing a safe environment for you to explore any issues you present with as well as those that emerge during the course of the therapy.
A Little Bit About Me
I bring high levels of commitment and wholeheartedness to my work, and believe passionately in the benefits of person-centred therapy and working mindfully with clients.
I have had a varied career stretching back to being a coal miner in my twenties, to becoming a Design & Technology Teacher in my thirties. In the late 90's I decided to train as a counsellor, having come upon the work of Carl Rogers.
My friends and family really matter to me, and I gain enormous personal satisfaction from connecting with them and others. Feeling like I am part of something bigger than myself helps me to gain a deeper sense of belonging and personal contentment. The ways in which I live my life outside of the therapy marries well with the ways in which I work as a therapist, encouraging clients to explore ways of gaining greater meaning and fulfillment in their everyday life.
The Therapy Room
My working area is in a dedicated counselling room at my home address.
I am situated on the 6th Floor with Lift for access.

Please note that although I understand that psychiatric diagnosis can be helpful for some clients in terms of offering some reassurance whilst also opening up access to mental health services, I don’t ascribe to the idea that listing a set of behaviours and giving them a label is ultimately either healing or helpful.
Individual - £40 per 50 minute session
What is Person-Centred Therapy?
Person Centred Therapy is a particularly human way of treating and supporting clients based on a deep trust and respect for the individual and their differences. When clients are supported in this way they tend to change in ways that lead them to living more fulfilling and meaningful lives. Person Centred therapists believe that you, the 'client', are the expert on how to live your own life. This is unlike in the field of medicine where the doctor or psychiatrist or psychologist is seen as being the expert.
I hold the personal belief that we all have a deeper wisdom that knows what is right for us yet this wisdom is not always available to us, for a whole host of reasons, for example stress, anxiety, depression, etc. I see it as my job to assist clients in making contact with this deeper wisdom. When we connect with this aspect of ourselves we no longer need others to tell us what to do and what is right for us; we already know it instinctively.
