About me
Hello, my name is Codie, I want to provide an extra warm welcome to my page!
I am a person-centred therapist working within the UK. Person-centred therapy basically means the topic of the sessions is up to YOU. There is no topic pressure or driven directions, just what you as the client would like to talk about.
The idea of this therapy is centred around the strong belief that you know yourself better than anyone else, even if you feel like you don't. No one will ever know how to feels to be you. Therefore, allowing self-exploration with non-judgemental or directional therapy allows self exploration, where you can start to take back control over your life, and begin to prioritise your own personal growth.
The importance of physical health dates back as early as 2500BC, yet mental health made a genuine introduction to science 75 years ago.
That meaning 'mental health' is thousands of years behind in studies and practice. Hence why it is super important to talk about it now!
I am a strong believer that the body and mind work with each other.
I like to look at it as though they're siblings.
Sometimes they get along and sometimes they fight. Yet they both affect each other.
The known understanding is if you are physically ill, to seek a doctor for medical help. Yet what about when our mind feels clouded, anxious, depressed?.
'Mental health' needs the same importance as physical health.
I am keen to dedicate my career to helping people become more self-aware of their own thoughts and feelings and create a better understanding of who they are, to fight their battles strongly and feel capable of doing so.
Training, qualifications & experience
I undertook a Bachelor's Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling, graduating back in 2022. This was a 3 year course which included extensive personal development as well as placement, theory and practice. I believe in order to be a great counsellor for your clients, you need to have a good understanding of who you are yourself. This course pushed me intensely but was the best thing I've ever done.
I volunteered within an IAPT service for adults in counselling for 2 years. Volunteering here allowed me to create adequate experience working with a whole bunch of mental health concerns. This service allowed me to create amazing work with clients experiencing issues such as anxiety, grief, bereavement, work concerns, disability affects on mental health and much more.
I also have volunteered within a primary school as a child therapist. I learnt so much during this placement about early development, strengthening my knowledge on attachment. I loved play therapy and realised this isn't restricted to just therapy with children. I love to factor this into sessions now, where clients are open to the idea, I believe a lot can be expressed through art where words cannot begin to describe.
I continue to upkept with my studies to provide that important support to YOU.
I am a individual member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) working towards my accreditation.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
