Clare Howlett MSc (Psychotherapy), Certified Transactional Analyst (P), UKCP.
Isbourne Holistic Centre
3 Wolseley Terrace
I am an experienced Psychotherapist having well over 2,000 client hours, hundreds of clinical supervision and CPD hours. I have worked for over 10 years within the mental health sector and have trained for a further 6 years specifically as a Psychotherapist. I have worked in various counselling and organisational settings; NHS, charitable and voluntary sectors, private and public school settings to name but a few. My experience ranges from working with mild mental health issues through to acute, complex mental illness.
What lies at the heart of my work is the professional relationship between my client/s and I. The quality of our therapeutic relationship comes from our ability to communicate comfortably with each other, which in turn is pivotol in driving the changes that you may want to make.
Why is our communication important?
As well meaning as family and friends can be, what you may need most is an impartial, non-judgemental place to just be yourself. My professional support is a confidential, relaxed, safe space to give you the necessary time to work on concerns at your own pace and in a way that suits you. Telling your story to someone like me, can give you relief and provide a different perspective and understanding.
What I offer?
I offer an initial assessment session where we meet to establish if I am able to offer you the help you require, and whether you are comfortable with my style of therapy and how I work. This one off session is important before either of us make any commitments to further our work together.
In individual therapy I work with such things as re-evaluating how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how this can lead to healing, empowering and greater life contentment. For couples we may work on such things as increasing your awareness of how your communication is impacting your relationship, and how you can develop greater effectiveness with this.
How I work?
I use transactional analysis and psychodynamic theory in my practice and take a relational approach to place our relationship at the centre of our work. This can involve short (6-12 weeks) pieces of work looking at one specific issue, or dealing with broader, more complex problems over a longer time frame. Either approach will involve us meeting weekly and regularly reviewing the work to ensure that the therapy is effective and appropriate for your needs.
