About me

Are you looking for a safe place and someone to listen and to really hear you, without judgement or any personal agenda? My focus is on you, your needs, what bothers and concerns you; whether those are pressing issues in the here and now and or long term/deep seated concerns that still, somehow, influence your experience today.

I will not analyse or advise; my purpose is to understand the world as you experience it and to accompany you on your journey towards a greater sense of wellbeing.

My approach is Integrative, which means that I bring together a range of ways of working; reflecting on the past, feeling around the present and exploring how things might be different in the future.

For the experience to be effective, it is important that we establish a sound relationship; your best interests are naturally at the heart of such a relationship and confidentiality is assured.

Please do phone, or use the email contact facility on this website, if you have further questions or want clarification on any point.

I work from comfortable consulting rooms in Crouch End and can offer reduced rates according to personal circumstances. An initial meeting would be charged at £30, without obligation; let’s see what works for you.

I am a registered member of the BACP and have experience working with young people and adults; that experience encompassing:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • bereavement
  • disability
  • trauma
  • parenting
  • fertility
  • adoption and fostering
  • adolescence
  • eating disorders
  • abandonment
  • discrimination
  • caring
  • personal development
  • sexuality and gender identity issues
  • relationship difficulties
  • mediation
  • sexual abuse

Prior to qualifying as a counsellor my career was in equalities, which has grounded me in, and committed me to, the imperative of social justice. What I want for society, I want for the individual; a real sense of liberation and possibility.

Fees

The first session, charged at £30, is effectively an assessment; an opportunity for you and me to work out whether we can work together productively.  During the session we can think about what you want/need; for instance, I would suggest a minimum of 6 weeks work, there is no maximum!

My charges are £50/counselling hour (i.e. 50 mins) but that can be reduced in light of your personal circumstances and should be paid by bank transfer in advance or in cash at the start of each session.

If you cancel a session, giving notice in advance, I will have to charge 50% of the agreed fee to cover my basic costs (room hire etc).  If I have to cancel, no charge will be made.  If you cancel, without giving a reason, the full charge will be levied and if you cancel more than 2 sessions, without notice, then I will reallocate the session.

Further information

I work from rooms at Project Me in Crouch End http://www.project-me.co.uk/contact/

The rooms are comfortable and quiet; I work alongside a wide range of therapists, physical and psychological.

The facility is well connected and well appointed; access from the street is step free and, whilst there is no lift, we can arrange to meet in ground floor rooms if the stairs present a barrier.

The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) is one of the leading professional bodies representing counsellors and therapists in the UK. You might be interested in their explanation of what happens in therapy https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/what-happens-in-therapy/

As I am registered with this body, I am committed to working within its Ethical Framework and may obtain professional support and training from the organisation https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/

You should also know that I am insured to practice, have regular independent supervision and undertake continuing professional development.

This is the body to which you may turn, should you have need to question or complain about my practice. https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-us/protecting-the-public/professional-conduct/professional-conduct-complaints-procedure/
