About me

I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means I use different models of Counselling.  This can include CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Person Centred Therapy.  I am Client led which means I work with what is most important for you and I will use what I believe will be the most effective approach.  I have many years of Counselling experience. This has been gained by working in a variety of professional settings, which has enabled me to gain a great depth of knowledge. I have worked with Clients of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs. I have supported people with a wide and varied range of issues, and provided the tools to enable them to find a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

Anxiety or Depression
These conditions are extremely common.  It doesn't mean that you are a weak person, if you have been diagnosed with either of these things.  It really is a strength to approach a Professional (such as myself) and discover how I can help you to gain greater insight into the feelings which you are experiencing.
At times, life can seem impossible to cope with, in fact, completely overwhelming. You may have experienced difficulties which you have been ignoring and suppressing for many years. Month after month, year after year, you have been dealing with these issues in the same way, but you can't see any improvement. You now realise you need to do something different to change your life. You have reached a crossroads, and you cannot seem to choose the best road to take, to enable you to be happy again.

Bereavement
Have you experienced a bereavement or loss?  It can be a sad, lonely, overwhelming time of your life.  Why not approach me for support?

Bullying
Are you being bullied? Whether it's at work, school or college, this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and shouldn't be tolerated.

Decisions
Should you carry on working in a job which provides little or no job satisfaction?  Do you feel that you always make the wrong decisions?  Could you change your approach and stop repeating unhealthy behaviours?

Relationships
Should you stay in an unhappy or abusive relationship?  Has your partner betrayed you?  Has your husband or wife had ANOTHER affair, after promising faithfully they wouldn't do it again?  Infidelity, is an extremely difficult issue to deal with.  Working with me, could prove extremely beneficial to you, by providing time for you to explore the emotions which you are experiencing.  Has your relationship been affected by the death of a child?
Whether you decide to see me together as a couple or as an individual, I believe I can help you to find the best way forwards.

Whilst you may have friends or family to turn to for support, they will try and help you in certain ways. They may take you shopping for a taste of retail therapy, or they may invite you out and buy you drinks to cheer you up. However, you realise that this is just a temporary 'fix' and isn't really helping you to 'untangle your head', and 'get to the root of the problem' in the long run.

Do you feel that wherever you turn, you just aren't receiving neutral support?  By seeking the help of a Professional Counsellor, who has nothing to gain from whatever decision you make, if any, this could be the best way forward for you. I can appreciate, that it can be extremely daunting speaking to a stranger for the first time. But by making that first step and contacting me, I will try and put your mind at ease and reassure you as best I can, about the Counselling process. We can explore your difficulties in the safe space of my Counselling room. I can support you and listen to whatever you wish to share with me,  It is the opportunity for you to be heard, maybe for the first time in years.  I can guide you through different strategies and techniques to help you to overcome your problems. By providing you with these techniques, it will enable you to adopt more helpful and healthy thought processes, a positive attitude, and ultimately, enable you to find a way forwards in your life with confidence.

Cost of Counselling

Are you trying to 'weigh-up' whether you can afford to come for Counselling? Some things worth considering are, you can pay £40 an hour for a Mechanic to fix a problem with your car or £250 for a car service, to keep your vehicle on the road. How many Cappuccino's do you treat yourself to in a month? £40 can pay for a trip to the hairdressers or £30 buys some 'gel' fingernails, these things are lovely, but you're still left struggling with your anxieties, your depression, or your feelings of just not being able to cope anymore. Whether you've thought of it this way or not, you are the most important person in your life - if you don't look after yourself, who will? This then affects your ability to look after other members of your family and friends.  What price is worth paying for you, for your mental health?  Surely, it's a price worth paying?

NHS

It can be extremely frustrating to be on a waiting list, without hope of seeing an NHS Counsellor "any time soon".  Many Clients have waited patiently, only to be offered an appointment 11 months after their original referral.  On many occasions, NHS Therapists can only see Patients for 6 sessions.  Unfortunately, the NHS are struggling to support Patients with Mental Health Issues, which is very disappointing.  If you contact me, we can discuss how I can help you and arrange a convenient appointment asap.

FEEDBACK:

One of my Clients recently told me, "I wish I'd come for Counselling years ago!"  One of my Clients who has just finished her Counselling sessions, advised me that her progress in achieving her goals set during her first session, was "totally a result of Counselling" and also described the Counselling she'd received from me, as "brilliant".  Another Client told me, "You've been fantastic, I can't believe how much better I feel!"  This week, one of my Clients described me as being "real, Claire you don't just sit there nodding your head how I imagined a Counsellor would be!"  So, please pluck up the courage, take the plunge and contact me - what have you got to lose?  I believe you've got a whole lot to gain!

  • abortion

Introduction to Couples Counselling

I regularly update my professional development, by attending courses and workshops. I have recently attended an "Introduction to Play Therapy" workshop.
I try to provide the best possible service to my Clients.  This includes seeing a Supervisor monthly and discussing my cases with that person.  It enables me to keep you "safe" and to support you as effectively as possible.  It also ensures my practice meets current legislation.

COUNSELLING EXPERIENCE:
My many years experience of Counselling have been gained by working within my own private practice and at GP Surgeries.

CHRONIC PAIN:
Additionally, I have worked for a private Pain Management Clinic, supporting NHS patients to cope more successfully with Chronic Pain.  I have seen patients who are struggling to live with many different health conditions.  These include Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, ME and many more.  Living daily with chronic pain, is extremely difficult to deal with and from my experience, a high percentage of people slide into depression.  Many people experience a loss of mobility (which can be experienced by people of all ages), which significantly affects their life on a daily basis.  This in turn, can "tip people over the edge".  I have successfully worked with people who experience suicidal thoughts, because of the "impossible situation", they believe their life to be.  I have helped them to "turn their lives around", they tell me. I have also supported chronic pain sufferers, who experience a loss of self esteem and confidence.  Together, we re-build their self esteem and enable them to "get back on track" and look forward to a brighter future, instead of being "stuck in the past" and constantly comparing themselves to the person they used to be.  Are you one of these people?  Please don't continue to suffer, contact me and we can have an informal chat about what you are going through.

SUPERVISION
I believe it is essential to work with a Supervisor, who you feel you can be open and truthful with. Talking openly about your Clients is crucial within a supervisory relationship.  I feel I am an approachable and "easy to talk to" Supervisor, who can provide you with the necessary support for you to reach your true potential as a Counsellor.

Additionally, I offer reduced fees for Students.

Please contact me to discuss what your requirements are, by 'phone or email.  We can then arrange a SKYPE/Wotsapp/Facetime or telephone appointment if required.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Appointments:
I offer appointments during the day or in the evening.  The session lasts for an hour. For Counselling to be the most effective, you would need to attend a session either on a weekly or a fortnightly basis. Any longer between sessions, you would spend a session just "catching up and not progressing".  We can discuss this further, during your initial enquiry or within your first session.

Telephone/On-Line Counselling - I also offer Counselling or Supervision by telephone or using Skype, Wotsapp video or Facetime.  So, if you would prefer to stay in the comfort of your own home, are unable to leave your home or don't live in my area, this way of counselling/supervision, could be an ideal way of working for you.  You may have some concerns about it, but if you would like to try it, please let me know and we can see how comfortable you feel with it.  It can prove extremely effective and beneficial.
