I am an integrative arts psychotherapist offering both long and short term therapy. I have a lot of experience in working with issues such as low self esteem, trauma, depression, anxiety, and loss. For the last few years I have been working with children in a school setting and this together with my adult work has made me keenly aware of the many challenges present in our society right now.
My aim is to help you on your healing journey by creating a friendly, non-judgemental and positive environment. I will provide with a confidential space where you will feel valued and safe, able to explore and develop your self awareness so as to find a more satisfying way of living. I am particularly interested in using the imagination to explore issues, thoughts and feelings, we can do this through image making, visualisations, story and such like. Working creatively is very effective in helping us to bypass our cognitive defences, which is where we often get stuck. If I feel it would be useful I may also incorporate some mindfulness practice into the work. Essentially I will work with you wherever you are, and with whatever you bring, techniques are only that, what really elicits change is the relationship between therapist and client. This is why I offer the first session free of charge, so we can meet and discuss what might be troubling you and to decide whether we would like to work together.
We all have the capacity for change and growth and the therapeutic relationship can be profoundly helpful in enabling us to open up to living more fully and effectively.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Institute of Arts in Education and Therapy in London and hold a Diploma and an MA in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy. I have also done some training in Art Therapy, CBT and Solution Focussed Therapy.
I have extensive experience of working with parents and children. While I am not currently set up to work with young children I can offer support to parents which can have a significant impact on the behaviour of the child.
I am also a qualified supervisor with many years of experience.
As well as private practice I work for Place2Be, delivering training in professional qualifications for counselling children.
I am fully insured to practice and follow the professional ethics of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
Areas of counselling I deal with
I offer the first meeting free of charge, as I believe it is important that we meet face to face to discuss what you feel you need and decide if we can work together. Subsequent sessions are £60.
