About me

Are you an adult with a young person in your life who needs support? Or are you a young person looking for a space to talk about your difficulties?

My name is Claire Phillips. I'm an experienced BACP registered counsellor working with children and young people (aged 12-21) to help them deal with the challenges, behaviours and emotions that might be having a negative impact on their quality of life.

I believe that young people deserve compassion and understanding as they navigate their way through life - it can be tough to be a young person and there are many challenges and hurdles that may need to be overcome. It's also hard as an adult when you have a young person in your life who is suffering and in need of a helping hand.

I hope to offer the young people I work with a space where they feel able to share their difficulties and explore their feelings at their own pace, without pressure or judgement. Empathy and tolerance play a crucial role in helping to address the issues that young people face and I place these aspects at the centre of my approach. My style of counselling is collaborative, gentle and respectful, with the child at the centre of the relationship at all times.

I am experienced in working with families and young people, having spent much of my time as a therapist practising in both primary and secondary schools in London. I have worked with children and teenagers who are struggling with a number of issues including anxiety, bereavement, depression, trauma, anger management, stress, loneliness, intrusive thoughts, negative body image and self-harm.

I mainly work online over Zoom at the moment. Sessions are 50 minutes long.

Please do get in touch by email if you'd like to talk about working together. I'd be happy to arrange a phone call to chat through any questions you might have and tell you more about the way I work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
