Claire Phillips BA(HONS) Dip Counselling (BACP Registered)
As a Person-Centred counsellor, I provide a space where I hope you are able to feel safe to voice your thoughts and feelings, however difficult. I feel that with some exploration you may become more open to experiencing your pain or fear. This can help you to recognise your more negative behaviours and/or defences which in turn will encourage you to become more instrumental in the process of your own healing and ongoing self-discovery.
Here is a little info about myself. I have travelled, worked and lived in South East Asia for over 10 years and have lived and worked in South East London for over 15 years. I feel I am able to deliver a way of working that is culturally sensitive. In the last 5 years I have worked in a London drop in centre running the art group and often providing 1-1 support for vulnerable adults presenting with various personal issues and mental health problems. I am currently seeing NHS clients on a part time basis. I have a good understanding of the effects of trauma encompassing the psychological, cognitive, behavioural and physical signs and symptoms and the effects of untreated trauma. For example, substance/alcohol abuse, depression, dissociation, sexual dysfunction, social withdrawal to name a few.
I can also bring a more creative element to my practice as I utilise Person-Centred Art Therapy Skills in some work with clients (PCATS) which I feel is a wonderfully creative tool for most, but especially when you may have a more difficult time in verbalising your thoughts and feelings. I can offer exploration using these skills as I believe that in verbal communication there are often constraints. Facilitating Person-Centred Art Therapy Skills I work with your spontaneous images, your intuition and imagination and expressed feelings which emerge from the right side of your brain whereas verbal communication emerges from the left side of your brain.
Training, qualifications & experience
