Why you might benefit from Counselling/Therapy

Over the years, people have seen me for all sorts of reasons. It may be that you are are going through a particular crisis at the moment, and although friends & family can partly help, the safe, non- judgemental, professional support of a psychotherapist could support you further, and hopefully also shed light on your emotional distress. Issues of difficult relationships, depression & anxiety can have many sources- together in therapy, such experiences can be compassionately explored together, so that some insight & peace may emerge to enrich rather than hinder your future.
My background is in the arts, and I am particularly interested in the imagination & creativity as a means to help explore and enrich our everyday lives.

It may be that although there is no particular current crisis, you would like the opportunity now to know yourself better in order to identify and hopefully fulfil some as yet unknown dreams.

How we would work together would depend on what you would like to bring, and the questions you have.

Integrating theories (I work with Attachment theory, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis & psychodynamic theory) and also by sometimes drawing on the arts during sessions, feelings & thoughts can be explored in a very safe, reassuring & rewarding way.

A brief description of possible Art forms to facilitate sessions:Therapy sessions can be facilitated through the use of different art forms (although using traditional verbal techniques are equally important at times). These include:

Art: The art image supports us to linger in the exploration of ourselves and inner world when, without it, we may run away from or avoid both.

Drama/Puppetry: Offers profound reflection on who we are and the roles we play. These art forms are also centrally concerned with how people change people, for better or worse, and the sort of connections we make with each other.

Sculpture/Clay:Sculpture offers a person the power to speak through touch. Its power lies more in the emotional resonance of substance.

Sandplay: Clients choose from a whole world of miniature people, animals and buildings and arrange them in the controlled space of the 'theatre of the sandbox'. This theatre then offers a profound overview of important life issues. Once feelings are organised and externalised in sandplay, they can be contemplated from a distance, and then assimilated.

Bodywork/Movement:It is also possible to work with what the body is already communicating symbolically, whether through posture, gesture and gait, or through illness and injury. Movement is integral to the very process of change.
