About me

My name is Claire and I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

As an integrative counsellor, I have a solid foundation in a wide variety of theoretical approaches. In my work, I draw upon psychodynamic, humanistic, integrative and CBT.

I combine a supportive, non-judgmental style whilst being appropriately challenging, creating an environment that is accepting and empowering for my clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked for several years alongside a variety of individual clients, with a focus on family, work and relational issues

I have an enhanced DBS certificate and I am fully qualified.

My training and broad range of experience enables me to assess the counselling needs of clients, and to recommend the most suitable approach.  Therapy can’t erase a difficult past but it can support you in moving on in your life by increasing your self-worth and thereby your self-esteem.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Children's Counsellor:
I have a Specialty in working with children between the ages of 5 and 18 years of age>

Do you find your child is often angry for no apparent reason?

Their performance at school is slipping?

They are withdrawn and you cannot reach them?

This is when as a therapist, I can work alongside your child in a therapeutic relationship to help them normalise their feelings and experiences; helping your child during therapy to improve their emotional wellbeing.

Couples counselling

Becoming romantically involved in a relationship is the closest kind of relationship as people we could have and getting married and raising a family certainly can add some twists and turns to a relationship. Having a relationship and being romantically involved comes with its own challenges, this can range from little disagreements to full blown break down of a relationship. Relationships can be full of conflict at times and calm at others, our health and happiness can be affected by our intimate relationships and it may help to seek outside help with a couple’s counsellor rather than working through a problem alone, allowing both people to gain better insight and understanding through a therapeutic relationship.

Couples Counselling: Having a relationship and being romantically involved comes with its own challenges, this can range from little disagreements to full blown break down of a relationship. Children's Counselling: Working with children as a therapist is something I enjoy and have been very successful in the past.   One of my therapeutic methods whilst working with children is play therapy.  My approach is to work with the child so that together we can find a way for them to say what’s troubling them.  My success in this kind of work is built on a firm foundation around the relationship of me and the child.  It helps to have some time together for an initial assessment and I can make appointments on request.
