Therapy can offer the space to explore difficult feelings in an environment that is safe and nurturing. As an experienced counsellor working from home, I offer individual therapy that can be either open-ended or short term depending on a person's needs.
I offer a safe place where feelings and behaviour patterns can be explored and the potential for change realised.
After working for over twenty years with the Probation Service, I qualified as a counsellor in 1999. I have worked as a therapist with a charity offering counselling for men and women who have been sexually abused. For the last nine years I worked in the NHS as well as in private practice. My training orientation was person-centred and this remains my core theoretical base, however I have undertaken short courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Transactional Analysis and these are incorporated in my work where this is appropriate.
I am also an experienced Social Worker and have worked as a trainer, supervisor and
assessor of foster carers. I sit on a Fostering Panel as an independent member.
More recently I have undertaken lengthy training in the NHS to offer Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and run these courses on a one to one basis from my home in Eastergate. I have discovered from my personal experience as well as working with groups that Mindfulness practices are an effective way of coping with difficulty, whether this is stress, anxiety or depressive periods of life.
I have completed an approved counselling training with Barnardo's Adoption Agency and I am able to provide Adoption Counselling.
I am able to offer day and evening appointments.
