About us

"In light of the coronavirus COVID-19, we would like to talk you through your flow when visiting our centre and highlight the hygiene measures we've put in place for your safety. Mental health is important and we are staying open, sensibly and safely to help people through these troubled times.

If you are self-isolating or at risk or have been in contact with someone who is at risk or just prefer to have your sessions remotely we offer skype/zoom and telephone sessions.

Flow on each visit

The front door, door handles and buzzer will be cleaned disinfected periodically.

On entry, you will be asked to wash your hands or use the sanitising gel provided. Each room also has sanitising hand wipes if you forget.

The bannisters to go up and down the stairs will be disinfected every morning/periodically throughout the day.

Doors/door handles to each room will be cleaned after every session.

The arms of the chairs in the therapy rooms will have been cleaned after the previous client.

We do not have a waiting room or communal areas; the only contact you will have is sitting a comfortable distance away from your therapist"

With your best interest at heart. Penny Ashburn, Centre Manager

Sometimes different problems need different therapists and whether the issue is anxiety, relationship issues, panic disorders /attacks or depression we are all unique in how that happens to us and who in a therapy setting we will respond to best which is why we set up a dedicated centre with a selection of handpicked professionals.

Based in a warm atmosphere we provide the highest quality therapy designed to serve each client. We believe the participation between the practitioner and client in the therapy process is fundamental to change.

We are committed to the support and growth of our professional team by promoting excellence through continuing education, interdisciplinary teamwork, and cross referrals.

We realise that the first step is your contact and to this end we have a 24 hour manned service to help with your enquiries, so please feel free to contact us today, tonight or at any time, we are here to help you.

We look forward to welcoming you to our discrete townhouse in EC1 just by Old Street/Barbican.

Training, qualifications & experience

We maintain a strict commitment to integrity, professionalism and excellence in all that we do. By adhering to these principles, we have earned the trust and loyalty of our clients, as well as the respect of our associates and their training organisations.

We are a multi disciplinary centre of excellence specialising in a range of talking therapies for individuals, couples and families. We realise that once you have made the decision to seek some help the next step is finding a credible organisation that you can trust. The City of London Therapy Centre only collaborates with fully qualified, highly experienced, insured therapists, so that you can relax in the knowledge that you have chosen the right place. No two people are the same, so at The City Of London Therapy Centre we believe in being flexible and working with each client in a way that suits them and their individual needs.

The City of London Therapy Centre has been purposefully designed to maintain its original town house feel. A lot of our clients have remarked on how comfortable and relaxed they feel in our rooms. When you arrive for your appointment, your therapist will meet you at the door and take you straight to your room, so there is no awkward waiting around in a faceless waiting room.

Based in the City Of London/Islington borders between Old Street and Barbican, we are conveniently located for all modes of transport.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
