Christine Kennett, UKCP Reg. Psychotherapist, Snr Counsellor, Couples Therapist
I am a Senior Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Supervisor and Psychotherapy Trainer with over 25 years experience in helping people come through difficulties and crises and create better, more meaningful lives. I have a deep commitment to the work I do and the difference it makes in the lives of those who come wanting help. I work with individuals, couples and groups within both long and short terms contracts and have experience in a broad range of areas including Trauma/PTSD and Personality Disorders.
Some of the difficulties we all face occur at different stages throughout the lifespan and are a normal part of life, for example serious illness, relationship breakdown and bereavement. Others are more deep-rooted in the personality and are often trauma-based, beginning in early life and continuing into adulthood. I am experienced in working with both types of difficulties and draw on therapeutic strategies that best suit the individual and the kind of difficulty they are facing. Some of the difficulties I work with include: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Issues, Loss and Bereavement, Mental Health Issues, Serious Illness, Abuse, Self-Harm, Isolation, Self Confidence and Self-Esteem. (See also below.)
Whilst my main approach is Gestalt/Existential, I integrate other theories and models as required. Fundamentally, I believe it is the unique relationship that is forged between client and therapist that is the force for healing and growth. I am experienced in working at depth with inner disturbance and distress, creating a contained space within which complex feelings and strong emotion can safely emerge, be given meaning and find eventual integration within the re-organised self-structure.
Gestalt is concerned with the whole person and focuses not simply on how a person talks about their problem but how it is lived and embodied in the present moment. It focuses on what supports and what restricts a person's choices, actions and expressions and generates support for practising new, more adaptive ways of being and responding both in the therapeutic situation and in the person's life outside.
I am happy to answer any questions you might have about me and my way of working to help you decide if I'm the right therapist for you.
