About me

I am an experienced and approachable psychotherapist and counsellor. At this very difficult time I offer sessions via Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp, telephone or FaceTime. If you feel anxious, depressed, stressed, have concerns about your mental health or simply feel the need to talk, please contact me.

Issues I work with

I have worked successfully with clients bringing a range of issues including generalised anxiety, depression, relationship issues, phobias, panic attacks, anger, stress, lack of self confidence and self esteem, abuse, trauma, bi-polar disorder, bereavement, menopause concerns, post natal depression, separation and divorce and more.

My Approach

My approach is aimed at working collaboratively with you, my client, in order to meet your unique needs. As an Integrative psychotherapist my initial focus is on developing a relationship of trust and confidentiality. Research has shown that it is the relationship between client and therapist that is the single most important factor for a successful outcome. Working collaboratively means I will not tell you what to do but together we can find ways to help you move forward to a greater sense of well being. The same approach does not suit everyone and according to your needs I may draw on concepts from a range of different approaches including, humanistic, psychodynamic, person-centred, existential and cognitive.

Experience

I have over ten years experience of working with people from a range of backgrounds and ages. Prior to focussing on my private practice I have worked in the psychotherapy department of St Thomas's Hospital, low cost charitable organisations, local authority counselling organisations for adolescents and young people and as a counsellor in secondary and special schools. I also have experience of working with a Crisis Intervention Team of a Mental Health Trust.

Training

I completed my post-graduate training in Integrative Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute.

I have also completed training in Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Background

Before becoming a psychotherapist and counsellor I worked for many years in the field of education, as a teacher, manager and as an SEN consultant. During this period I also qualified as an Educational Psychologist. My background, in addition to providing me with considerable life experience, has given me an understanding of the impact of early experiences on development, and a strong belief in human resilience and the ability, of all of us, to change.

I offer evening and day time appointments, including Saturdays.
Please contact me by email, text, phone, or via my website (www.westlondonpsychotherapy.org), if you would like further information. I am registered as a provider of counselling and psychotherapy for BUPA, AVIVA and CIGNA.

I abide by the UKCP and BACP Codes of Ethics.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
