About me

Now is the time to discover your full potential. Discover and develop meaning. Attain your dreams. Live a more fulfilling life.

I have been supporting people who are struggling with their mental health and well-being for more than 20 years in a variety of settings including the NHS, Private, Voluntary, and Public Sectors.

My overall approach to therapy tends to be straightforward and honest,  I value transparency and direct communication in the therapeutic relationship. I believe in working alongside clients by providing safety and validation to help you achieve your goals and become your own therapist.

CBT-Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps to identify and explore the link between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Often unhelpful ‘vicious’ cycles develop which serve to maintain your problem(s). CBT mainly focuses on the ‘here and now’; whilst past events and experiences will be considered during therapy, overcoming current difficulties are at the root of the sessions. This approach will also help you to develop practical self-help strategies to manage and reduce your current difficulties. I have additional training in CBT techniques for Children and Adolescents.

ACT-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which utilises a number of different techniques to enhance psychological well-being. Key messages in ACT relate to accepting what cannot be changed and committing to action to make a life worth living. The objective of ACT is not to eliminate or change difficult feelings but instead encourage people to develop a more accepting and compassionate relationship with their experiences. Mindfulness techniques are an integral part of ACT and encourage being present in the moment and developing more awareness and control over negative thoughts and feelings. I have additional training in Enhancing outcomes for individuals on the Autism spectrum with ACT-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  ACT for Adolescents and ACT for grief and loss.

Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) for Children, Young People, and Adults. TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment model designed to assist adults, children, adolescents, and their families in overcoming the negative effects of a traumatic experience.
This evidence-based method has been proven effective for treatment after multiple traumas or a single traumatic event, and therapists trained in TF-CBT are frequently able to help people experiencing the emotional effects of trauma address and resolve these effects. I have additional training in TF-CBT for Children and Young People with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that is the result of trauma. EMDR is also effective in treating other mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, phobias, and panic disorder.

Advanced Motivational Interviewing with Mentoring. Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, goal-oriented method of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is intended to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a change goal by eliciting and exploring an individual’s own arguments for change.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
