About me

Let's face it, life can throw some pretty awful things our way, often they affect the way we see and feel about ourselves making us feel lost, directionless, overwhelmed or lacking in confidence. The coping mechanisms we develop in childhood often don't serve us well into adulthood. This can result in feelings of depression, anxiety and destructive behaviours, even having a negative effect on those we love the most.

I can help you to understand those thoughts, feelings and behaviours, where they came from and how to get in touch with your core self. Together we can explore your past, present and future, helping you develop better coping mechanisms so you can build confidence and resilience for whatever life throws at you.

As we are all different, not everything will work in the same way for everyone. Therefore, I use techniques from many therapies including internal family systems, creative therapies, guided imagery and inner child work. It's about whatever works best for you.

I have a warm and open manner with a down-to-earth approach. I believe that your ability to trust me will be key to the effectiveness of the therapy, which is why it's important that I provide a free initial 15-minute telephone call to introduce myself and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about me or the counselling process. There is no obligation, you have to make sure I'm the right therapist for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BA (Hons) In Counselling Studies
  • Fda in Counselling
  • Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Dementia Care
  • Level 4 Diploma in Art and Design - Foundation Studies
  • Other courses completed in Hoarding awareness and Bereavement support.

Specialisms: Bereavement, Hoarding, Anxiety

I have several years of experience in bereavement counselling so I understand how losses of all kinds can disrupt our sense of self and affect our daily lives.

I have also worked as a declutterer working with people with hoarding behaviours and worked as a social prescriber for a GP surgery. These roles were really interesting work and I've met some lovely people and learned a lot about the sorts of problems that affect our ability to cope with normal life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
