About me

Dr Christian Schulz-Quach has a keen interest on the interplay between mind and body. His therapeutic work centres around how symptoms in both domains are a form of communication which if better understood can inform a more authentic way of living.

Training, qualifications & experience

Christian is a fully trained and accredited Consultant Psychiatrist with specialist training in Psychosomatic Medicine, Medical Psychotherapy and Palliative Medicine in both the UK and Germany, respectively. Christian has over 10 years of clinical experience as a senior specialist in Palliative and Hospice Care and has worked internationally in this field. He consults in English and in German.

Christian is a Visiting Lecturer in Palliative Care Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London and has worked as Liaison-Psychiatrist at St Christopher’s Hospice London and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He has received Consultant level training in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy from Germany, the UK and the US and is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). He is the co-founder of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital Dusseldorf, Germany.

Christian is trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, as well as Existential-Phenomenological Therapy. Christian has an academic track record with a Doctorate in Neurobiochemistry from Germany and post-doc research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. Additionally, he is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Existential-Phenomenological Psychotherapy in the UK. He has published internationally in the field of palliative care psychiatry, psycho-oncology, medical education and psychotherapy. He has edited and co-edited numerous books in Germany.

Dr Schulz-Quach ist Facharzt für Psychiatrie, Psychosomatische Medizin und Psychotherapie mit der Zusatzbezeichnung Palliativmedizin aus Deutschland. In London hat er seine psychiatrische Expertise durch zusätzliche Ausbildung im Maudlsey Training Programme erweitert und ist Mitglied im Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych). Sein Arbeitsschwerpunkt liegt in der Therapie und Begleitung von Menschen mit Sinnkrisen, existentiellem Leid, Angst und Depression, sowie der Bewältigung von lebensverkürzenden Erkrankungen. Er war Konsiliar-Psychiater am St Christopher’s Hospiz in London und lehrt im Bereich Palliative Care Psychiatrie am King’s College London, dem Kibbutzim College in Tel Aviv, Israel, und dem Global Institute of Psychosocial, Palliative and End-of-Life Care (GIPPEC) an der University of Toronto in Kanada.
