I'm Christian, a BABCP Accredited Psychotherapist with many years of experience helping hundreds of people like you overcome psychological difficulties and live happier, healthier, and more satisfying lives.
Drawing from a range of approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), I offer interventions based on clear science.
Training, qualifications & experience
As a former Uniformed Mental Health Clinician in the British Army, and a Senior NHS Psychotherapist working in Complex Treatment, I have developed my skills working with people with serious and complex difficulties. I use that experience to help people build proven skills for improving their psychological health and to gain the confidence and focus to do more of the things that matter to them.
Imagine no longer feeling stuck. No longer struggling with difficult or distressing thoughts and feelings. No longer lacking motivation, or conversely always feeling you have to be busy or on the go. Imagine finding new meaning and satisfaction in your life. Imagine being able to take control of your life, whatever shows up for you, and getting on with the life you want to be living.
Struggling with emotional and psychological difficulties is not a sign of weakness. Life can be difficult and struggle is a natural part of it. What can make things harder is if you have never been taught the psychological skills you need to handle these difficulties effectively, or when you find that the ways that appeared to have worked in the past are no longer working for you in the present. That is not your fault, but it is something you can change with Evidence Based Psychotherapy. Help from a professional Psychotherapist can make a real difference to your well-being by providing you with the insights and tools to make real and lasting changes in your work, your relationships, and your life. Here you will learn the best that science has to offer on improving and maintaining your psychological well-being.
The approach I have found most helpful with clients is an active one. From a starting point of understanding and compassion, our work together is about making changes, by gaining new insights and learning new skills. Although sometimes called talking therapy, it is much more than simply talking. Drawing from extensive training and experience in a range of evidence based approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), I will help you to clearly identify what is maintaining your distress, keeping you from moving forward, and, with help, take the practical steps needed to get you where you want to be.
Counselling and therapy is often seen as simply about providing a space to be listened to. That is an important aspect of the work but, understandably, you may wonder how it is going to help you make real change? The answer is that it really is just the start. It is important to be listened to because only you know your own experiences and circumstances and only with that knowledge can we decide what we need to do to reach your personal goals for our work together.
Psychotherapy draws from the science to create a plan that is tailored to your specific needs. From there our work together will go much further, by helping you to develop the insights and skills needed for lasting change, and which will continue to serve you long after your therapy is complete. My aim with every client is to help them achieve lasting change. We will build the necessary psychological skills that will help you overcome your current difficulties and which you can take forward into the rest of your life. If you want to get more from your therapy than then that is what I can offer.
Much More Than Just Talking.
Our work together will help you make changes on the outside and on the inside.
You will build the flexibility to handle your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations more effectively on the inside, so that you can be far more effective with what you do on the outside. We will connect the two so that you can see how many of the ways we try to control our inner experiences (our uncomfortable thoughts and feelings) can hold us back from living in the ways we want to. And, most importantly, you will learn how to change the way you approach your thoughts and feelings, through practical proven skills, so they no longer get in the way of the life you want to be living.
We will agree on our plan of action, which will include in between session work, designed to help you get the best results in the shortest time. Therapy can be different lengths for different people, depending on what they want to achieve, and the difficulties they are facing, but the aim of our work together is always to equip you with the skills you need as quickly as possible rather than to keep you in therapy for longer than is necessary.
