About me

I am an experienced and professionally qualified psychotherapist, counsellor and member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). My focus and commitment is to help my clients achieve real change in their lives in relation to the problems they have. My job is to help you change your life for the better.

I support people with relationship issues, panic disorder, identity and self-esteem issues, different forms of abuse and trauma, feelings of isolation and loneliness, family issues, and generalised anxiety disorder. My expertise lies not only in helping you work out how to address problems as they are currently, but also in supporting you to establish lifelong knowledge and strategies which put you more in control of such struggles in future. I am here to do this with compassion, care and structure.

My approach to counselling

My first priority is to help you to feel secure. I will provide you with a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. I listen attentively, with empathy, not only to what is said but also to what is felt.

We will explore your difficulties together and gain a fuller understanding of you, by combining what you discuss with my experience and knowledge of developmental psychology and subconscious processes. This can help you to discover what prevents you from achieving what you want in life and can consequently help you to make more informed choices and decisions.

As an integrative therapist I am skilled in different theoretical approaches (humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural) which I integrate according to what works best for you and your struggles. In order to develop a trusting relationship where exploration of personal struggles can occur, I strive to be as transparent, clear and open as possible. I value my clients as they are, without judgement. I help clients to find their own answers rather than advising or telling them what to do and I challenge assumptions with sensitivity and honesty. I treat my clients’ personal information with the utmost confidentiality and respect.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at Greenwich University to masters level (MSc) in Therapeutic Counselling. I also have a degree (BSc Hons) in psychology. My career as a psychotherapist began in 2005 with work in secondary schools, which culminated in becoming a student counsellor for a 6th form college. Working firsthand with people in such formative years provided me with experience that significantly informs my work. I have worked as a counsellor in a GP surgery as well as a mental health charity and a national charity organisation providing counselling for people affected by multiple sclerosis. I have been working exclusively in private practice for the last 10 years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
