About me

Most people want answers to the questions below.
What are the prospects that counselling will help me with anxiety (including generalised anxiety disorder), depression, feeling sad, panic attacks and stress?

Research* shows that 80% of clients are better off after therapy.  A good working relationship between therapist and client gives the best chance of counselling being effective.  I have over 20 years' experience of forming such relationships, building trust based on acceptance, not judging, confidentiality, and empathy.  I'm experienced in telephone counselling.  I hope soon to resume seeing clients face-to-face, taking all necessary precautions against Covid-19.

-   How long will I need to come?
65% of people improve after seven sessions.  I work with short- and long-term clients.

-   How much will it cost me?
£50 per session.  It's an      investment worth making in yourself in order to find a way forward.

I specialise in working with Headteachers, teachers, and other school staff.  If you are suffering from unacceptable levels of stress (including work-related stress),  have relationship or family issues, are experiencing anxiety or depression,  or have low self-esteem and want someone to listen, understand and support you, then please contact me.

I have many years' experience as a counsellor in a GPs surgery, in private practice, and in schools (counselling staff and children). My work with schools has been featured in Times Education Supplement and in School Leadership Today.  Managers refer staff to me for counselling and support.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their code of ethics.

I offer a quiet, tranquil, safe place. Parking available.  Easy access from Reading town centre, Wokingham, A329M, M4.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
