About me

Over the past 12 years, I have counselled adults of all ages in both short-term and long-term therapy and I have spent several years working with clients referred through the NHS and private organisations. My work with young adults as a sixth form counsellor in a local grammar school gave me a valuable insight into some of the difficulties young people face at this challenging time in their lives.

Why Counselling?

Taking the first step to seek counselling may seem quite daunting and I appreciate how difficult this can be. You may believe you should be able to resolve your problems on your own and the idea of talking about them to someone else may seem truly difficult. You may ask, "How will counselling help me?"

Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk with a trained professional about any difficulties you may be experiencing: these may relate to personal relationships, work related issues or unexpected life events.

I have had the privilege of working with many clients over the years and I have been inspired by their determination to bring about change in their lives. I believe that counselling creates the opportunity for change by giving you the time and space to discover what is really important for you.

Your First Session

Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to see how we can work together and whether you feel your needs may be met through counselling.

I offer a reduced fee for the initial appointment. All sessions last from 50 minutes to an hour. The number of sessions you have will be determined by you, depending on your personal issues: you may find a few sessions meet your needs or that longer term therapy is necessary to resolve your difficulties.

Free parking is available and my practice can be reached by bus routes 7,8,9,20,21 and 29.

Prittlewell Station is a 10 minute walk and Southend Victoria Station a 15 minute walk away. Southend Victoria Station is served by the above bus routes.

If you would like any further information please contact me on 07800 642066 and I will be happy to discuss any questions you may have.

I adhere to BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am committed to on-going professional development that enhances my work.

I am a Member of Metanoia Institute.

My working life has included a diverse wealth of experience, ranging from working with very young children in a Montessori Nursery school; working in the civil service and later to the world of corporate finance with a multi national company in the City of London. In all these environments, I became aware of how good communication plays an important part in meeting individual needs - how important it is to have a voice and be heard.

We need to communicate in a way that will allow us the freedom to be ourselves and build good and happy relationships. My interest in the complexity of relationships and how they influence and inform our thinking, led me to change professions and become a counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

How I work as a Person-Centred Counsellor
As a qualified professional, I will help you to gain a perspective about whatever is troubling you by listening and not judging the choices you have made.  I will try to understand how you are thinking and feeling; how you experience your world and help you to identify the underlying cause of your concerns.

I believe our working relationship is most effective when built on openness, mutual respect and trust and my hope is that by taking time to talk in a relaxed and confidential environment you will begin to experience your uniqueness and discover what is important in your life.

My aim is to provide personal and professional counselling which I believe will help to deepen your understanding of yourself and your situation so that you are able to make confident decisions based on the choices available to you.
