Charlotte Usher MA MBACP (Accred.)
At some point in our lives we all experience challenges, emotional difficulties and uncertainties. These can make us feel anxious, distressed and overwhelmed. Sometimes we turn to those around us for support, yet this may not feel enough or we may feel we can't be fully open through fear of judgement or a lack of understanding. This is when counselling/psychotherapy may help.
I offer a confidential and safe space where you can explore your experiences and feelings without judgement. Whether you are experiencing relationship issues, anxiety, anger, depression, trauma, eating issues, addiction, family issues, stress, sexual issues or bereavement, counselling focuses on your individual experience. It may help you to gain new insights, a deeper sense of who you are and what you may be finding difficult. Counselling can enhance your self-esteem, confidence and relationships with others. Counselling can help you to live a fuller and freer life, enabling you to make changes if you desire. This may be achieved by self reflection and by exploring unconscious communications.
I am a qualified and experienced counsellor/psychotherapist. I trained at the University of Hertfordshire for five years, exiting with a Masters Degree. I am an accredited and registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by the BACP’s ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. The BACP is a professional organisation that represents counselling and psychotherapy in the UK. I am also a member of the Association for Infant Mental Health and the Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists in North London. Furthermore, I am an accredited member of the Infant Loss Foundation, having completed specialist training in working with those who have experienced an infant loss.
As well as working in private practice I work for a local counselling charity as a counsellor and assessor. In addition to working with individuals, I also work with couples and those wanting to work on their relationships.
Furthermore I am an experienced supervisor, psychotherapy tutor and group facilitator working in higher education settings.
I am strongly committed to continuing professional development. I attend regular courses, seminars and events in order to stay up to date with current practices, research and theories.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
