About me

I’m Charlotte The Mother Wound Whisperer, I am an award-winning psychotherapist who specialises in working with women who have difficult mothers or who are worried about being one. I serve Clients with my online and telephone services, courses and retreats extending across the UK and beyond.

I have worked in women’s circles and Red Tents for a number of years now, and see the strength and support women can gain from a non-competitive environment, where you are accepted exactly as you are. All the retreats and workshops I run are limited in numbers so that I can hold space for you and really hear what you have to say and offer the group.

I also provide individual therapy for those who are not yet ready for group work or for those needing extra support.

Difficult Mothers

Difficult mothers can leave us with a Mother Wound, this wound often leaves you feeling like you are not good enough, no matter how much you achieve or people please. You may find your relationship with your mother is difficult, you may have to walk on egg shells or look after her emotional needs despite what’s going on for you because, in truth, it’s all about her. My Mother Wound work helps you to recognise and process how your mother’s narcissism has affected you, and gives you practical steps and support to find your worth and honour your achievements, so you feel good enough.

In the words of my clients:
‘The counselling has really helped me talk and open up about problems that had been upsetting me for years. Talking about them has helped me to release them and feel much happier in my life.’

AC Former Counselling Client

'Dear Charlotte, Thank you so much. You came to me when I was ready for a guide and I am so grateful.'

Penny

'Thank you for working with me and making such a beneficial difference to my life.'

AB Former Counselling Client

'I recently had a confrontation with a friend. They were acting up and I reluctantly pulled them up on it. They blew up and walked away. My usual reaction is to blame myself and pander to them. I also have a tendency to worry about it and blame myself for a while after, sometimes disturbing my sleep. Straight after the confrontation had happened, I remembered something Charlotte had taught me. The useful ‘Charlotte’ voice pointed out that the feeling terrible and wanting to appease comes from a time when I wanted to appease my mother while at the same time, blame myself for her actions. Immediately on reminding myself of this, the bad feeling went away. It had completely taken the power out of it. I didn’t worry unnecessarily about my friend and it fixed itself without all the heartache. These things actually work! Thank you, Charlotte. You are amazing.'

Angela

'The great thing about Charlotte is, she is really approachable. She is far from formal and clinical. It’s like talking to your friend beside the fire. She’s such a gentle and nurturing spirit, and knows her stuff. She has really helped me get through some tough times. I recommend her.'

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
