About me

Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that helps you work through any difficulties causing psychological distress in your life in a safe and confidential way. I specialise in the areas of anxiety, bereavement, trauma and abuse and relationship difficulties.  If you feel that you cannot name a specific cause for what is going on, and everything feels troubled, we can explore together the experiences of your life to try and make sense of them.

How Online Counselling Can Help

The therapeutic relationship holds the potential for a process of healing and transformation. The guiding principles of my work are to offer a safe, supportive and confidential space to develop this relationship and explore all that is going on for you. Counselling can help you to make shifts in ways of thinking, feeling and acting in the world which can improve your quality of life and help you to move on from a stuck place or traumatic event.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a process by which past events and experiences are thought about in the context of the present and how your day to day life may be impacted upon by these past experiences. The therapy focuses on working through and making links from past to present to allow for new insights and awareness to enable shifts in thinking, feeling and behaviour.  At this process takes place, the capacity to make different choices for in the present and future opportunities is is presented.

How Can I Help You?

I have been working in a therapeutic capacity both within agencies and in private practice since 2004 in the UK and now currently live and work in private practice online in Northern Spain. Depending on your needs, I can work on a short-term basis for a set number of sessions, or long term, open-ended work once or twice weekly.

Online therapy is different to working in person of course, but it offers great flexibility and makes therapy more accesbile to all. My approach that the key to making change is the quality of the trust in the therapeutic relationship and this relationship feels just as important online.

Anxiety and stress are running especially high due to the effects of this COVID pandemic, lockdown and restrictions. Perhaps things that have been bubbling away in the background for some time have now risen to the surface. If you would like to chat through your problems with anxiety, depression or general stress, please do get in touch.

Working Online

Online sessions work in a very similar way to face to face in that the session takes place at the same time and day every week. You will be able to see me in my consulting room via the video call which can be either by Skype or Zoom, whichever you prefer. It is quite simple to use these tools and I can talk you through thing if you are not familiar with them.

Getting in Touch

I understand that the unknown can be daunting and reaching out is a very important and courageous first step in the process. You can email me initially to request a free initial consultation which will give you the chance to meet me and see how online working feels for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

My practice is trauma-informed which means that I work with an understanding of the impact of trauma, in all it´s forms, upon the whole of the person, mind and body and wider social implications.

Ecotherapy is a specialist area of interest and working in ways which consider our relationships not just in the context of family, partners, friends and community but also the natural environment we live in and depend upon. I am interested at considering the ways in which we are able to connect both to ourselves and others impacts how we connect to the wider world we are part of. If you are especially interested in developing your relationship to the natural world, please get in touch and we can look at the ways in which I could support this process.
