Charles Mead PGDIP, NDip, Counsellor/Therapist, Accred, PSI/CBT Cert, BUPA
About me
Now offering TELEPHONE, SKYPE and FACETIME Counselling.
If you need therapeutic support wherever you are, made worse in this very difficult time of ‘lock-down’, Charles is fully experienced in Internet counselling (Skype or Facetime) or via telephone.
Charles long experience as a Manager and Senior Therapist/Counsellor in the NHS Mental Health Services, has enabled him to offer often brief, effective and appropriate therapy, in his successful private practice.
He provides a friendly and empathic approach to counselling and therapy, which is always in complete collaboration with each client, working toward enabling clients to find happiness by finding positive ways forward, often within a person centered or psycho dynamic framework and often utilizing effective methods which are solution focused. These may include Cognitive Therapy (PSI-CBT) and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) which is a similar approach to EMDR Therapy (used to help reduce some effects of PTSD).
Charles has gained valuable experience working within professional NHS services for over twenty years, helping people to overcome difficulties which may range from Serious Anxieties, Panics, Phobias and Addictive Behaviours; to Depressions, Losses, Fears, Worries, Relationship difficulties and General unhappiness. He now works exclusively in Private Practice.
An Accredited member of BACP and his name is on the BACP/Central Government public listing, which means that he is registered with the Central Government quality register. His training, skill and experience has been approved to the advanced status of Accreditation to British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. This helps assure clients that therapists are trained to high standards, work within BACP ethical agreements and are subject to the conditions (including complaint proceedures) of BACP.
Charles offers a confidential and friendly experience, with the aim of successfully achieving relief, happiness and management of MH difficulties often within a 'short to medium' period of time.
He has a long experience with all aspects of therapeutic work via internet and also provides Supervision services to counsellors, practitioners and students.
Charles encourages potential clients to provisionally phone him to discuss briefly and in confidence, their needs and to determine how best to move forward with appropriate and effective help.
After a first session clients often feel a strong sense of relief and welcome the opportunity to book further therapy sessions, or on rare occassions may be helped, by being sighposted to other professional specialists. His work is normally very short term, always helpful in finding happiness and often very effective in managing more severe and perhaps enduring symptoms. Longer term work is not unusual to suite the needs of other clients.

Member organisations
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Each person who may endure difficulties will often describe a sense of isolation and lonliness attached to very unpleasant feelings and symptoms. (One in four people in the UK experience Mental Health illness and the stigma and embarrassement may also become severe) My long experience enables a safe and confidential theraputic relationship to quickly form, which promotes belief, understanding and ultimately a positive and 'can do' sense of future.
I co-ordinated a community based Art Group which won the best East of England NHS Mental Health project in 2008, with special commendation for Equality and Diversity. The project called 'The Expressions Group' enabled people with Mental Health difficulties to express themselves, meeting in the community (usually overlooking Bedford river) in making a highly creative collection and publishing a successful book.
My time was supported by the local NHS Foundation Trust Day Care Services. The book is available through Bedfordshire libraries and is entitled 'From Darkness into Light'.
I am having fun writing a children's Novel, an adventure book called 'The magic carpet ride to Zamora', which is a strange world in a parallel universe.
