Charles Hayward (BA, BSc, MA, MSc, MBPsS)
Hello and welcome to my practice. I offer a safe and confidential service from my home in Lordswood (near to Walderslade and Chatham) situated in a quiet suburban setting - my main priorities are to give my clients a safe place to discuss issues they might find difficult to discuss with friends or family, and to ensure that the confidentiality of those discussions is completely respected.
My approach to counselling is person centred - I like to take a conversational approach where I base my counselling around the cornerstones of empathy, genuineness and an unconditional positive regard for my client. Please see below for an outline of my qualifications and experience.
I offer a flexible range of appointments, including daytime, evening and weekend appointments. I am also completely happy to give you flexibility when it comes to making appointments to fit in with your life and work.
If you would like to book an appointment the best way to contact me would be either to press the 'Email me' button next to my picture or to send a text message to the mobile number above. If I'm not available to answer my mobile then please do leave an answerphone message with your first name and a number I can contact you on - no one else will listen to my answerphone messages but me.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Masters degree in integrated counselling from the University of Greenwich. I also have a Masters degree in psychoanalysis from the University of Kent, as well as a Bachelors degree in psychology. I have a wide range of experience within my counselling practice, working with both adolescents and adults. I have worked with clients on problems including anxiety, depression, bereavement, family problems, drug addiction, gambling addiction, sexual assault, sexual problems and self harm. I have worked with clients who had generalised anxiety disorder and borderline personality disorder. This isn't an exhaustive list of issues that I'm trained to work on, but it gives you an idea of my experience.
I also have over 10 years experience of working as a qualified nurse, working in both NHS and private hospitals. I have a Bachelors degree in adult nursing. I have a wide range of experience, working with people young and old who have had longstanding medical conditions, people who were receiving treatment for cancer, and people who were going through extensive and life changing surgical interventions. I am absolutely happy to draw on my medical background if you have concerns or difficulties of a medical nature.
I am a registered member of both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the British Psychological Society - I am happy to tell you how you can check on my registration of these bodies if you wish for your peace of mind.

I want to give as many people access to counselling as possible, so I charge my more well off clients a little bit more to subsidise my work with those less well off. My fees are slightly different to what you might you see other counsellors charge:
For higher rate taxpayers (£45,000 and over), my fee is £40 per session
For lower rate taxpayers (£11,500 to £45,000), my fee is £30 a session
I can also offer two slots per week at £20 per session if you are on a low income, on benefits, or currently unemployed
All sessions are 50 minutes in length
