About me

As an experienced Psychodynamic Psychotherapist I provide a confidential, warm and secure therapeutic space for clients with a broad range of issues and concerns. Please contact me if you would like to arrange a face to face session in Bristol, Glastonbury or online.

I am a registered member with the British Psychoanalytic Council and the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My approach is based on psychodynamic principles which can help you to make sense of current struggles and anxieties. By exploring the unconscious it is possible to begin to understand and process difficulties rooted in the past.

Unconscious patterns of behaviour affect one's experience of the world and this approach allows for a gradual exploration of deeper conflicts, shedding light onto protective but maladaptive ways of coping. This process can bring together a more coherent understanding of the self and better equip one to deal with life's challenges. The capacity to develop an expanded sense of self helps one to discover a deeper sense of identity, maintain better relationships, experience more meaning in everyday life and make positive choices.

I welcome those adults of any age, culture, gender and background. I have experience of talking to people who have come to therapy for a wide variety of reasons, such as depression, anxiety or low self-esteem. Something difficult may have happened in your life: you may be feeling sad, overwhelmed, unhappy or  be experiencing; anxiety, social anxiety, family issues, panic attacks and you’re not sure why or how to change things.

So what happens next?

If this resonates with you, just send me an email or leave me an answer phone message, whatever you prefer. I will contact you as soon as possible to arrange an initial session. You are welcome to arrange a time with me to call for a brief chat on the phone if you have some queries about the therapy.

We will usually arrange two initial meetings to explore whether Psychodynamic therapy is right for you. If we decide to work together we will arrange to meet at least once a week for 50 minutes, and think together about what feels right in terms of the length of the therapy.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
