Celia Harrisson MBACP (Snr Accred) Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist
I am a BACP Senior Accredited counsellor/psychotherapist and an Advanced Certified Practitioner in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. My core training was Person Centred/Humansitic. My approach is relational. My training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy includes cutting edge research in the treatment of trauma, complex trauma, childhood emotional wounds and attachment theory.
About Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy blends cognitive and emotional approaches, verbal dialogue and physical interventions that directly address the implicit memories and neurobiological effects of trauma and developmental wounds. It is on the cutting edge of the latest research on the treatment of trauma. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy has at its core mindfulness and nonviolence.
How I work
I specialise in working with Trauma, Complex Trauma, Panic Attacks, Anxiety, PTSD, Dissociative Disorders, Attachment Issues Emotional issues and Childhood Developmental Wounds.
Trauma would include Car/Cycle/Riding/Boating accidents, Time in hospital, Difficult labour and childbirth, Experience of War as well as Sexual, Emotional and Physical Abuse.
The symptoms of trauma, attachment issues, emotional issues and childhood developmental wounds often cause much distress in our current lives. The most common are depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, mood swings, low self esteem, chronic pain, hopelessness, substance abuse, self harm, feeling unreal or out of body, Loss of sense of "Who am I", emotional overwhelm and relationship difficulties.
I have at the centre of my practice the belief that it is in the therapeutic relationship of empathy and unconditional positive regard that a person can discover their deepest value and unique self.
Feeling safe is often a foreign concept to those who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect. I believe the client needs to experience a sense of safety in the relationship and in the therapeutic space. Drawing on my training and experience and my training in sensorimotor psychotherapy for the treatment of complex trauma I am able to facilitate this process.
I sometimes use creativity in my practice for those clients who want to benefit from this approach (sand tray, stones, art work, visualisation, singing, creative writing etc).
In a therapeutic relationship of trust and empathy my integrative model and specialist training can bring healing, transformation and Integration.
