About me

I have been working with people for 30 years as a psychotherapist. I still find it is a privilege to listen to a person's story and to build trusting therapeutic relationships.

When a potential client contacts me I will ask them to come and meet me. At this meeting I will take a history of the client's background and ask them why they are seeking therapeutic help at this point. This is useful for both of us as it helps me see if I can offer them a therapeutic service and gives the client the opportunity to get a sense of me and if I am the right person to work with them. If we both decide to work together a contract for 6 initial sessions is made. At the sixth session we review our work and consider extending the contract.

In the early sessions my main way of working is to really listen to what the person is saying so that I can understand as best as I can what the client is struggling with. However I do also working creatively with drawings and visualisation with some clients if this is helpful to the work. Nothing is imposed on a client as it is always a negotiation in the client's interests.

I work in private practice on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday and  Wednesday mornings which includes evenings. Each  session lasts for 50 minutes.

I work with individuals and couples. For couples it's best practice if the couple come to meet with me in the first instance. On some occasions i see the individual partners separately for a few sessions.

I  also offer supervision to trainee and graduate therapists and counsellors. I am also happy to offer consultative supervision for counselling trainers.
