I am Dr Cathy Wood, CPsychol, DClinPsychol, AFBPsS. I am a HCPC registered Chartered Clinical Psychologist providing a psychology service from Prestatyn North Wales. I provide assessment, psychotherapy and counselling for people in distress to help them find the calm within and to make the changes that they want to make. I am a Clinical Psychologist, Accredited CBT Therapist and an Accredited EMDR Therapist too.
I offer psychological assessment for a variety of forms of distress, including anxiety (generalised anxiety, panic disorder, OCD and phobias), relationship issues (including family issues, affairs and betrayals, separation and divorce, bereavement, couples issues, child-related issues and attachment disorder), mood problems (such as depression, postnatal depression, anger management), the effects of abuse (emotional abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse and physical abuse), issues such as low self-esteem, low self-confidence, gender dysphoria, the effects of trauma and work related stress.
I also offer neuropsychological assessments such as adult assessments for Asperger Syndrome (ASD/ASC), sensory testing and intelligence testing for children (WISC-IV).
I have had 10 years experience of working as a psychologist in the NHS with a variety of clients, including adults, older adults, young people and families. Until recently I have been working with children, adolescents and families for the past 5 years on the Wirral, seeing clients with a range of complex issues. I have recently working with Denbighshire Child and Adolescent Services, providing complex neurological assessments and CBT for young people.
I have been working in independent practice for the past 5, initially alongside my NHS work, but am now working independently full time. My approach is individual, evidence-based, and goal focused, based on psychological assessment, proven therapies and client goals.
My therapy room is based within Prestatyn Chiropractic Centre, on Prestatyn High Street, where clients have access to the receptionist, the waiting room and the toilet (and the occasional cup of tea). The setting is comfortable, relaxing and confidential.
I trained to be a Clinical Psychologist in Liverpool University and I currently still provide teaching and support for trainees on the Liverpool University Clinical Psychology course.
As a commitment to my life in Wales I am working towards providing a bilingual service and website by 2016 and am currently on target to achieve this.
