About me

I am a BACP Registered and Accredited Counsellor working in Henley-on-Thames.  My experience is varied, and I have spent the last eighteen years assisting clients with differing events in their life ranging from crisis, to a general feeling that something does not quite fit.

I am here to help you understand your own story. I offer a confidential non-judgemental space for us to explore your needs.

I do understand this can be a difficult process, as we often stop ourselves getting the support we require, but you have taken the first step by coming here.

My training is Integrative which means I can fit my approach to suit your needs. The approaches I utilise in the work are Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, and solution focused brief therapy. Being flexible with my approach allows me to consider you in a way which is bespoke and suited to your goals for our time together.

I consider an ethical approach, alongside professionalism and confidentiality to be an essential building block of our Counselling sessions together; from there I offer a warm and non judgemental space for you to offload, and freedom to explore your needs and inner thoughts.

I feel that our relationship is important and I will endeavour to create the right conditions for you, so that you can trust me and the counselling process.

I do not offer advice as a Counsellor and strongly believe that aiding you in a better understanding of yourself is where your answer lies.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed a BSc (Hons) Psychology and MSc Integrative Counselling, I am an Accredited and Registered Member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP); meaning that I strictly adhere to their ethical guidelines, and am governed by their regulations- they are Accredited by the Department of Health. I am an EMDR practitioner. I also offer Autogenic Technique in my practice.

I am fully committed to the Counselling process, from my personal and professional experience; it can bring about change. It can be transformational as well as support us through life’s challenges. I strongly believe that we all hold the ability for change within us, and the right support can allow this to emerge.

I have worked in the private and public sector, in the NHS within acute mental health and medical settings; such as the Maudsley and Kings College Hospital, and for charities such as Place2Be and Kids Company. I have been a manager of Counsellors in the Corporate sector and therefore understand the pressures that people can experience in their working life. I have also worked within Schools and currently working as a University counsellor.

I offer trauma treatment via EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) a complex method of psychotherapy which integrates a range of therapeutic approaches in combination with eye movements or other forms of alternative dual attention stimulation, which appear to stimulate the brain's information processing system. I also utilise Autogenic Technique within my practice which is a deep relaxation technique.

I am rigorous about evaluating my practice and keeping up-to-date with research and developments within my profession, for instance have completed a Critical Incident Debriefing training and further training in Attachment theory. I have special interests in Trauma and Addictions.

In accordance with the requirements of my Accreditation I attend regular Clinical Supervision, I also adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework  for good practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
