About me
My name is Catherine and I am a qualified Counsellor, having gained my Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling from Wealden Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy in October 2018.
I have been in private practice since March 2022 when I created Insight Counselling; I specialise in supporting women with their emotional health and am currently training as a Menopause Wellness Practitioner.
I am also working towards obtaining my Certificate in Trauma and Recovery, and am looking to train as a Personal Development Coach and Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. I hope to later qualify as a Hypnotherapist.
I offer a thirty-minute consultation which is free of charge; this is an opportunity to discuss what's brought you to Counselling, what you would like to gain from sessions and for you to ask any questions.
If we feel we can work together, sessions are £45.00 for 50 minutes; payment is required two days prior to session to secure your booking, and your session will not go ahead if payment is not received beforehand.
Cancellations by yourself within 24 hours or any non-attendance will require a discretionary £20.00 cancellation fee. Cash is not accepted.
Sessions can be face-to-face, online/video or telephone to suit you, and this can be flexible on a session-by-session basis if required. I work weekdays and weekends from 08:00 until my last session at 18:40, although evening sessions are available on request.
Sessions are confidential; however, I am required to 'present' clients monthly to a Supervisor to enable best practise and receive guidance. Further, if you disclose a risk of harm to yourself or another, I may be required to breach our confidentiality for safeguarding purposes; if this is the case, I will endeavour to discuss this with you in the first instance where possible.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy; I am insured with Holistic Insurance and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
Training, qualifications & experience
I gained my Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling from Wealden Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy in October 2018, and have been in private practice since March 2022 when I created Insight Counselling.
I am working towards obtaining my Certificate in Trauma and Recovery, and am looking to train as a Personal Development Coach and Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner. I hope to qualify further as a Hypnotherapist.
I specialise in supporting women with their emotional health and am also currently training as a Menopause Wellness Practitioner.
I attended placements throughout my training in Sage Counselling, working with disabled and elderly clients within their own homes, and St. Barnabas, learning to provide support for those nearing the end of life as well as for their families.
I have spent 18 years as a police officer working within Sussex, and have specialised in domestic abuse and stalking for the last five; I also took on the role of 'Defuser' in which I held group briefings to support colleagues who had attended traumatic incidents, regularly attending ongoing training in this field.
I previously spent 8 years volunteering for Samaritans, where I supported people via telephone who were suffering with emotional distress and despair, including those experiencing suicidal thoughts. I attended an initial six-month training programme before being accepted as an Active Listener and went on to become a Mentor where I would support and encourage new volunteers in taking calls.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
