About me

FREE CONSULTATION:

 Counselling: Coaching : Auricular Acupuncture

For 25 years I have successfully supported people make positive change within themselves and their life situations. The therapeutic support I offer privately is both varied and flexible to suit you and all your needs, I also work part-time for the NHS.

I feel it a real privilege to support people move from a position of vulnerability to that of strength. I love empowering people to see they have choices, and supporting them in becoming resilient. Changing the way people think and feel and inspiring hope and positive outcomes is part of my life purpose and meaning. My work along with my family and friends are what bring me the most joy.

Personal Information and Professional background

I am 55, married and been living with my husband for 38 years, a mum of two young adults and feel fortunate to have such a varied and stimulating life.

For 20 years I worked for a ‘blue chip’ company supporting departments of people in improving their confidence, performance and wellbeing. Many who had achieved incredible outward success in life, yet still felt dissatisfied or troubled by a sense of unease or a yearning for something else. Many I worked with were stuck in addictive cycles or tackling emotions such as sorrow, loneliness, grief, trauma, guilt or shame... still others shared feelings of fear, a loss of control, an increase in frustration and anger. I feel honoured to have helped so many to move forward in raising their self awareness and in supporting them to want to change so as to achieve their goals.

It was while coaching this diverse range of people that I took voluntary redundancy to acquire more specialised clinical qualifications to practice full time as a psychosocial intervention worker and therapist.... this provided me with the means to obtain my now robust experience base over the last 15years, where I have supported people in gaining relief around topics such as:

specialised Anxiety and worry; stress and depression; complex grief and loss; relationship issues and confidence building; and in over coming all types of addiction and more. I never looked back!!

What can you expect from counselling?

You can expect a free 60 minute, confidential consultation, which includes a full risk assessment alongside an exploration of your needs and expectations. A tailor made care plan is designed around how you want to move forward.

My approach is both proficient, and sensitive, which is especially important when supporting some of the more chaotic, and occasionally traumatic life events and situations. There is very little I have not dealt with, I think it safe to say I am un shockable.. My non-judgmental ethical approach, I am often told works speedily in getting you to a place where you feel held and safe enough to speak. I get a lot of encouraging feedback, something I hear again and again is how my clients have felt FULLY heard, often for the first time.

Although therapy has a ‘seriousness’ to it, I do encouraged appropriate humour and laughter along the way, recognising laughter as beneficial to the healing process.

I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP, (British Association for counsellors and psychotherapists), working in accordance to the BACP’s Ethical Framework.

I am also a certified fully insured Auricular Acupuncture DETOX Practitioner. This intervention is extremely popular with my clients seeking addiction related support and with those who are undergoing anxiety related therapy, so as to maintain their overall health and wellbeing.

Modes of therapy and Venues:-

Training, qualifications & experience

My Training, qualifications and experience are robust and integrated.

I hold an advanced professional diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling level 4, qualifying me as competent in both my knowledge and practicing experience in several different therapeutic models and approaches.

This 'eclectic' or 'varied' style of therapy, means I can offer you lots of options and choice, moving away from a ‘one approach suits all’. My tool kit also offers Auricula Acupuncture, of which many of my client return for time and again long after achieving their desired outcomes, as part of maintaining enhanced health & well being.

My approach is simple and straightforward.

Your care plan is tailor-made to suit ‘you’ and 'your' needs, which can be adapted at any point.

Your agenda is the main focus of our sessions.

Addictions and Substance Misuse

Do you require better control over your alcohol consumption? If so you're not alone.

People often share with me concerns around increased substance related misuse such as:- alcohol; food, prescriptive / illicit drugs. I support others with an unmanageable behaviour that they want to change such as:- worry, shopping, work, sex, gambling, the list goes on.

For over a decade, I have worked within addictions services, currently the NHS as a psychosocial Intervention practitioner. In this role, I successfully support others change undesirable behaviours, which range from frustrating habits to deeply entrenched addictions. Whether the concern is slight or significant, my knowledge and expertise in this area is both extensive and reliable.

In my now part time Psychosocial Intervention Worker role, I work along side psychiatrists and clinical leads, supporting many challenged with varying accompanying mental health diagnosis’s, keeping me in touch with the latest theories and my tool kit wide ranging and relevant.

Concerned other service

I offer a concerned other service for family and friends of troubled loved ones. Loved ones who potentially have an unmanageable personal issue, but who may be in denial around that issue or just not ready to seek help.

Concerned other support has provided me as much positive feed back as any other support I offer.

Couples Therapy

I offer robust relationship counselling therapy for couples. £90 for 90 minutes. Ask if you would like to see testimonials.

Developmental Coaching

My 20 plus years experience at practicing developmental coaching, boasts qualifications with distinctions, much of my experience doing this was realised whilst practicing within a large ‘blue chip’ organisation.

Groups and Workshops

In addition I offer bespoke groups and workshops to suit all your needs. Some 'off the shelf' topics include:-

Stress Busting; understanding and making friends with Anxiety; Power, Control and Communication; Womens' Health;
Alcohol/ Drug Awareness; Confidence and Self Esteem Boosting.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Other areas of counselling I deal with

For twenty years I led teams within a blue print company in the private sector. I also worked within an operational role covering aspects of Human Resources. The knowledge and skills I gained during this time, along with qualifying as a coach practitioner brought me much success in empowering and mobilising people back to work, many from long term sick. My efforts Improving well-being and performance within a department of circa 200 was recognised via a nomination for a chief executive award.

After having had 20 happy years working in the private sector, voluntary redundancy allowed me to commit to charity driven voluntary work and ultimately a career change working within the field of addictions. During this time I re-trained as a psychotherapeutic therapist, studying for 3 years at Manchester University. I went on to become highly experienced as a psychosocial interventions worker within a long established and reputable substance misuse service. I continue to enjoy success-supporting people in making positive changes, and in becoming stronger in themselves and their relationships.

I am committed to continually updating my holistic knowledge and skill set, and in keeping abreast of new theories in the management of mental health and well being in general.
