I worked within a drug and alcohol treatment facility for several years as a therapist within a group setting. I also devised delivered and facilitated workshops working closely with groups of clients and families who were struggling with addiction and were looking to turn their lives around. This experience and understanding enables and supports me to provide a safe place for what can sometimes be described as addictive behaviour as well as having a very clear knowledge of working with the sometimes extremes associated with addiction. These extremes can be explored fully in safety and without judgement. I am competent and assured in supporting you within all aspects of this area.
Additional significant experience includes a number of years working with and supporting clients dealing with loss and bereavement. Loss and bereavement can feel immense at any time, age or stage of life. I will provide a safe place for you to talk about and bring your feelings of loss out in the open in a way that feels supportive of you at all times.
Working as a counsellor within a Women's Centre for a period of time provided me with an opportunity to develop experience and support individuals and families to move forward with and make sense of various family dilemmas and issues including - family relationship breakdown - dealing with grief and feelings of loss - step-family sibling and parental interactions Throughout my time in the centre I was able to provide a safe place for the exploration of any expectations and issues surrounding such interactions and relationships.
Working with youngsters within secondary education is another area I have significant experience and specialisms within. As well as being a fully qualified counsellor supporting young people through times of trauma and unrest, I am also and have been for the last 30 years a trainer and educator in various educational and training settings. I have devised and delivered various programmes of support through workshops group work and within more prescriptive educational venues such as mainstream schools for 11-16 years.. Presently as well as my private counselling practice I also work some hours within a Special Educational Needs Provision. Within this setting I work closely with youngsters who have decided to move away from and disengage with formal education mostly due to ill health and or mental and emotional fatigue and other such issues. I provide support and a safe place for the youngsters and their families if need be to work through any issues which may be troubling them at the time.
Cancer touches so many lives and can have various impacts on those who are dealing with it directly or indirectly.
