About me

I qualified as a counsellor in 2006 and am as passionate about counselling now as I was at the start of my career. If you are curious about what counselling involves and whether it might be helpful for you, please get in touch! I offer a free initial 30 min no obligation consultation. I believe that the relationship between a counsellor and client is at the heart of any therapy being effective and that initial conversation is important in helping you to decide if I feel like the right counsellor for you, and for me to gauge if my skills and experience are likely to meet your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am experienced and qualified in several different talking therapy approaches which means that I can draw on my experience to work in a way that is most suited to you.  I offer sessions via Zoom or phone. I am very experienced in providing counselling in this way and find it to be effective. Accessing sessions remotely means that you can have the sessions in the comfort of your own home and without unnecessary travel time or costs.

I will offer you a safe, respectful and non judgemental space to explore whatever feels important. I won’t tell you what to do as I trust that you are the expert on yourself, even if it might not feel like that for you at the moment. My role will be to help you gain new insight and make sense of your difficulties, and to discover ways to move forward that feel right for you. You might want to talk about where you are in your life at the moment,  to speak about challenges you have faced in the past or that are present in the here and now, or to understand what might be causing you to feel or behave in certain ways. People come to counselling for many different reasons and the way that I work with you will be based in evidence based theory, knowledge and experience and tailored to your unique needs.

I offer individual counselling to clients aged 18+, I also offer supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors. My counselling experience has been gained working in private practice, the NHS, voluntary and low cost community counselling organisations.

My qualifications: BSc in Reflective Therapeutic Practice, Higher National Diploma in Counselling, Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression Practitioner and Supervisor, Interpersonal Therapy Practitioner and Supervisor, Certificate in Working with Survivors of Abuse.

Member organisations

school Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I understand that it can take a great deal of courage to send an email or make an initial call to a counsellor, especially if this is your first step towards therapy. Please be assured that I will do all I can to put you at ease, answer any questions you have and help you get the most from the counselling, should you decide to proceed.
