About me

I work with both adults and young people aged 11+ in an integrative, humanistic way, using mainly Gestalt, TA and the Person Centred Approach. I offer talking therapy and, in addition, my background in art education prior to becoming a therapist allows me to support clients to use creative materials and approaches if they would like to. This helps clients to explore how they feel in the present and can be a way to access ideas for how they might like life to be in the future. I believe that clients are the experts on their own needs and relationships and work in a way that supports you to identify these for yourself in order to work towards creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Professional Diploma in Gestalt Counselling and prior to this completed a Foundation Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a member of the BACP and abide by their ethical  framework.

I started my working life as a youth worker and then went on to work in schools as an art and DT teacher. I have always worked with children and young people. In my capacity as a counsellor I have been employed in an after school counselling project for a large counselling charity, and as a school counsellor, in addition to seeing young people in my private practice.

I volunteered for a young carers charity and and am sensitive to the very specific needs of this client group.

My teaching experience has meant that I have worked with lots of people around issues they have faced as a result of neurodivergence and SEND. I have also worked with clients who are processing feelings around sexuality and identity.

I use creative approaches such as sand tray therapy and use of creative art materials to help clients to overcome blocks to their own understanding of themselves and their own personal situation. Clients can choose to do this in addition to talking based therapy if desired.

I have worked long term with clients who have experienced trauma and have supported them to feel safe enough to begin the delicate work of processing their feelings about this.

I have completed training to enable me to facilitate counselling groups.

I am currently completing training to become a supervisor to others employed in counselling and the helping professions.

I offer CPD training for schools and other organisations.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
