Carrie Whitworth (DIP. COUNS) (BACP member)
I qualified as a person-centred counsellor in 2001 having achieved my diploma in counselling after a complicated and emotional journey of my own involving a life changing relationship break up. My own experiences have helped me understand and empathise with many people and gives me a better understanding of my own on going personal and professional journey in life.
I have recently moved to the area and would love to see private clients in a safe and confidential and pleasant space to help work through any issues and difficulties that may be going on or just to lend a listening ear that is away from distractions, complications of life and a space to breathe that is non judgemental.
I have a 25 year old married daughter and recently got married myself. I work as a Cats Protection Volunteer which helps keeps me grounded in this busy world and in touch with new and interesting people and animals that I can help.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained for three years as a person-centred counsellor in 2001 and initially worked in a GP practice in Cumbria. I have also worked voluntary for various counselling services including pregnancy counselling services, and general counselling services . I work in private practice now as I feel I can offer a listening ear without the constraints of time limits. I have experience in working in different ways with art therapy, connective breath and other holistic ways of healing from exploring problems, issues, and life's difficulties. The time is for you to help yourself heal in a way that is best for you and at a pace that is best for you.
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Generalised anxiety disorder
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I describe myself as a "general" counsellor and will help you explore any of your issues and problems but of course sometimes I may refer you to people/organisations who can help who have more expertise in particular areas. I also offer Pet Bereavement Counselling as it is important to recognise that a pet is part of ones family too and the death or other loss of a pet in some way can be very distressing both emotionally and practically.
- I offer an initial free 30 minutes for us to meet or talk on the telephone and there after £40 for an hour.
I can travel to you with a £5 local travel expense if you have difficulties travelling which I feel is an important consideration (I can travel further out of our area if you need).
As I have been a student myself I understand the expense and I can offer a reduced rate of £35 per hour for students training in counselling.
If you need flexibility with your time I can sometimes offer evening and weekend appointments.
