About me

I am a Counsellor with 10yrs experience that offers Confidential Counselling to individuals and couples in a relaxed non-judgemental environment in the local East Belfast community with a broad spectrum of issues. I am a member of BACP and accredited with NCS. I work from an Integrative perspective which combines different approaches (Person-Centred, CBT and Psychodynamic). These approaches are tailored to fit the individual, their difficulties, personality and particular needs.

How counselling can help

I believe healing begins by experiencing unconditional acceptance and understanding and this can begin in a Counselling relationship. Therapy allows you the space needed to truly explore your thoughts and feelings in a way that is meaningful to you and for you to share your story in a safe space where "you can be true to yourself".

Life can become overwhelming and at times complicated, whilst we can't undo the hurt and pain from the past, we can look at the obstacles and challenges that are preventing you from moving forward and reaching your full potential. It is my goal to work together to help you explore who you are and help you come to terms with and find the solutions to your difficulties which in turn will help you experience a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I work with a wide variety of issues such as, Depression, relationship issues, spiritual issues, confidence issues, low self esteem, postnatal depression, anxiety, grief and loss, sexual orientation issues and those at risk of suicide and self harm.

What to expect in your first session

Our initial meeting will last for an hour and we will discuss particular issues (past and present) that are causing you difficulty and distress and also for you to get an understanding of what counselling is and what you are expecting from counselling and if it is for you at this time.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
