I am a BACP Registered and Accredited Counsellor with over 19 years’ experience counselling both adults and young people. I am also a qualified and experienced Life Coach, Counselling Supervisor and Trainer.
I have practice rooms in Harrogate town centre and close to Ripon.
My counselling approach acknowledges and respects that people are all unique with diverse experiences, feelings and beliefs. To take account of these differences my approach draws on a range of theories which aims to find a way of working that is right for you. Central to my approach is the quality of the therapeutic relationship - as it is the strength of this working relationship that determines the success of counselling. My experience has shown me that people are more likely to get to the root of their difficulties if they trust that they are in safe hands and feel accepted for who they are. I am not here to judge you or to tell you how to think, feel or live your life. I believe that you are the expert on yourself and your life but that sometimes, we can all find ourselves in periods of distress perhaps feeling unable to think clearly or connect to who we are or where we are going.
My approach aims to support you in making sense of your thoughts and feelings, to gain clarity on your situation and feel better about yourself which can enable you to live a more fulfilling life. The process of being heard without judgement can be an immensely healing process in itself, leading to increased self-belief and self-acceptance. Past life experiences may also have had an impact on you and how you see yourself and your relationships today. The counselling process provides a safe place to explore significant life events and/or relationships which can help you to make sense of them and find ways to move forwards. I work with a wide range of issues and concerns and use a variety of approaches to facilitate you in reaching your goals.
Your first counselling session involves a mutual discussion in which we can establish if we are able to work constructively together. During this initial meeting, I will carry out an assessment of your needs and give you an indication of how we might proceed. I offer both short and long term counselling but the number of sessions that will be needed is largely dependent on the issues that you wish to work through. It is so important for you to feel comfortable with your counsellor and confident about their ability to help you with your issues. With this in mind, you are in no way obliged to continue working with me if you do not feel that I am the right person for you.
I have also had extensive experience working with young people and adapt my approach to fit with the specific needs of young people. I have an Enhanced Certificate with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about me and how I work.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
