About me

UPDATE JULY 2023

We are welcoming two therapists to the practice.  Returning to work with us is experienced UKCP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor, Fiona Croston.  Fiona has worked at the centre previously and we are delighted to have her back.  Tracey Bonelle has also recently started working with us.  Tracey has a long history in working in mental health and is a registered member of the BACP.  Both therapists are working on Tuesdays at the centre.

We also have a new play therapist working at the centre on Saturdays - Louise Howarth,  meaning that we are able to offer therapy to children and their families in addition to therapy for young adults, adults, families and couples.

The therapy centre is now fully open for face to face therapy (young adults and adults) with some of our therapists, although availability is currently limited  Family and couples therapy is also available.   In addition we also have availability for online/telephone counselling.  Please get in touch for details.

Our therapy centre is located in Beverley - Beverley Counselling & Psychotherapy. Please see our website for more details www.beverleytherapy.co.uk

In addition to myself,  eight experienced therapists are based at the centre and we are able to offer family and couples therapy as well as individual counselling and psychotherapy. We are able to see individual clients aged 16+, and children within family therapy sessions and play therapy sessions.

My charges are £70 per hour's session but I do also have a very limited number of reduced rate sessions. Other therapists may charge different rates (more for couples and family therapy), so please get in touch with me to find out more.

**************************************************************************

I am fully qualified UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and BACP accredited counsellor. Having had experience of counselling myself as a young adult I became interested in counselling as a career and now have over 20 years experience as a counsellor working in a variety of settings.

I believe in trying to make counselling a down to earth experience. I do not believe in using jargon or making lots of notes and I aim to to make my clients feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. My aim is to try and really understand what is going on for you and to help you make sense of it. Like all counsellors I work in a non judgemental way meaning that you won’t be judged.

There is still some remaining stigma in society about seeking counselling. I believe that seeking a space and time to talk to someone about your problems is a really sensible and rational choice. Some people come with a specific problem they want to deal with, others know just that there is something wrong without a clear idea of what it is. Either way I can help you understand what is going wrong and help you to find a way through it.

I have a special interest and experience in working with anxiety, depression and eating disorders. I also have many years experience in working with young adults (aged 16-25).

I am a qualified clinical supervisor.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Alongside my training in eating disorders I also work with clients with issues around eating distress and body size.

Other therapists in the centre are able to offer couples counselling, family therapy and EMDR.

Fees

£50.00 - £70.00

Additional information

INITIAL SESSION  £50-£70 depending on which therapist you see in the practice.

This session lasts about an hour and is a chance to talk through why you would like counselling and if counselling would be right for you. It gives you a chance to meet me and decide if you would like to work together. There is no commitment to further sessions. If you think you would like further sessions we would make a plan together.

FURTHER SESSIONS  £50-£70 depending on which therapist you see in the practice.

We offer both short and long term counselling. Some people prefer to have a limited number of sessions (6-10) to focus on an issue that is causing them problems at that moment. Some people prefer a more open ended arrangement so that they can explore a number of issues which perhaps go back historically in order to find a better way of living in the present.

Further information

I hold a current enhanced DBS Certificate.

We do not have private parking at the centre but there is lots of unrestricted parking in the streets around the centre.
